Paint / Stencil Idea - Need suggestions

We moved into our new build almost a year ago and I want to add more color. Our walls are all light gray, which we did on purpose to be a good back drop- and then we can add color later. (As opposed to having to pick all color schemes during the build which overwhelmed me!)

Enter our laundry room, which is right off the mudroom. Below are some pics of color schemes I love- One is of a shower curtain that I just LOVE the pattern on. It’s titled Dahlia Flower Burst. Wonder if I could find a stencil like that and layer the colors that way. I’ve browsed online a bit but haven’t looked super hard - I’m sure it’s out there.

Would you apply that stencil to just the back wall (where clothes often hang on front of it), or would you side wall as well? It’s a narrow space so I don’t think doing all the walls in a pattern would be ideal. I’m leaning towards just that back wall because then it’s a fun pop of color but not overwhelming. We like subtle, calm colors. Our home is generally light but warm tones.

Included several pics of the laundry room, as well as the shower curtain pattern I love, plus a couple of color schemes I love.

Thoughts? Would you do something entirely different? Thanks!!

I think it’s a great idea! I like that pattern and the colors you’re considering.

It’s so easy to paint over if you end up not liking the stenciled wall ... but I think you will like it. :)

Also... please disregard the hap hazard blankets and towels stuffed on top of the cabinets and shelf!! That needs to be reorganized, it's not permanent!

When I was first married, the popular craft was either sponge painting the walls or feather painting the walls.

I did the feather painting and it turned out great. You use a natural feather, feather duster and dip it lightly in the colors you like. Dab at the walls, overlap, use as many colors as you like. It was cheap, sorry inexpensive, and looked cute. It was very easy to paint over when I got tired of it.

I did not try stenciling, but I did not have the patience! It is pretty. If you have a Hobby Lobby or Micheal's try there.

ETA: Your colors would adapt well to feather painting and I would do all the walls.

I think it will look fabulous. I would start with the wall you see when you open the door. Complete that wall and then live with it a couple of days and decide if you want to do all four. Have you ever stenciled before? After one wall of stenciling multiple colors, you might decide that one wall is best. Stenciling can be very time consuming.

Thanks everyone!! I have never stenciled before... but I have a steady hand and am patient. Plus, I work from home, so I have the luxury of doing a little bit every day for however many days I need to! I'm so excited... thanks!!

Have you started your project? I would do the hanging space too as that is where you will be looking toward the most. I love stenciling. I did my entire dining room so it looks like wallpaper. Right now researching my next project. Post pics when you are done!

On an unrelated note... taking those pics made me realize how much crap we'd stuffed on top of those cabinets... blankets and towels have successfully been re-homed :) Nothing like posting pics of your home on the internet to make you tidy up! Ha!
