Is it possible to turn on the shower without getting wet?

My bathroom is similar to this, and I was considering getting a glass panel like that. But I can't figure out how we would turn on the shower without it spraying us. Is there something I am missing?

    Design was per client/interior designer spec. They're plan is to turn the tub on first to get the water warm, then turn the shower on.
