Backsplash throughout the entire kitchen?

We are remodeling a kitchen with two distinct cabinet areas-- see pics below. I am thinking about only putting backsplash (white subway tile with light gray grout) on the L-shaped area near the range, and not putting any backsplash on the area near the window. Do you think that would look okay, or would it make it look like the kitchen is incomplete or too "broken up" (being that the L-shaped area is so small)? I want to make sure the entire kitchen looks "put together." Thanks so much in advance for any and all opinions!

Edited to add: Our main sink will be located in the center island. We are putting a small bar sink below the window, which will basically only be used to fill our coffee maker.

Put the subway tile in both areas. You need a good back splash around your sink for function if that is near the window. If the sink is in your island, I would still use the tile near the window so the areas look connected. You don't need to tile the wall by the door - just the wall between the upper and lower cabinets. I can't imagine why you would not want tile there.

It is more common to have tile go behind the counter, given all the wipe downs. I don't think it will look finished.

If you want bs in limited zones, it really looks so much better if you use your counter material for this purpose, not tile.

A bs serves several purposes, and one is to unite disparate kitchen zones. I do think it will look unfinished with nothing below the window. Besides, you will need a bs of some sort where you have your a prep sink. You could opt for a 2" bs made of counter material for the entire space, with a taller counter bs behind your range.

Thank you all so much for the suggestions, this board is so helpful. I was initially afraid that having backsplash in both areas would look like too much tile— I really appreciate the confirmation that it won’t be too much and that it will actually look better than having backsplash in just the one area. I really appreciate the help!!

The sink is in the island, how about the dishwasher? Also do you have enough room on each side of the sink? As for backsplash I would do one consistent finish. I like the recommendation made by “eam44” above.
