I like the taupe and the fawn, but I agree that you need to see all the samples in the same room, as photos can be misleading about colors and because your lighting can affect things too.

Since your granite has so many shades in it you really need to match to your cabinets. The sand look too orange on my computer. I would take a cabinet door with you to the tile shop & bring home samples. There are so many shades of white-off white-creamy white (which is where I think you should go) that you need to make sure it goes with the countertop AND the cabinets.

Thanks Calidesign. You bring up very good points.

Kitchen style is Transitional. I have attached pictures of the granite and tile.

The sand maybe more modern and the porcelain cream/beige more traditional (and maybe too similar to my floor)?

My appliances are black stainless steel so was thinking a charcoal island and light gray tile may also work? But the granite is cream/beige overall. It does have some gray and charcoal. Adding in these colors would kind of blend warm and cool? Don't know.

Acm, y lighting can make a difference. Will definitely get samples home.

mark_rachel, good point on comparing tile to cabinet and counter. BM White Dove is an off white- creamy white. Do you remember the name of your tile?

So charcoal gray island and light gray tile are out? My appliances are black stainless steel.... a kind of deep metallic gray.

With a travertine type floor tile, and that granite, I would definitely stick with a white like your cabinets, or a cream/light taupe. I don't see gray working at all, anywhere. If you want a different color for the island, stick with expresso, or maybe a taupe/tan color like the photo below. If it's not too late, I would rethink the black appliances. Anything lighter will blend much better with your cabinets.

    Thanks, calidesign.

Cabinets have not been painted yet. Was thinking of BM White Dove which is a soft white.

I was hesitating with white tile because it maybe difficult to match the whites. Gray white or a yellow white. I have read that the BM White Dove is more a gray white. So was thinking the sand tile above would be simple and classic and no worries of a clash with the cabinet shade of white.

I like your suggestion of an expresso island.

The appliances are a metallic gray (although it's called black stainless steel- they are not black). This color matches the gray/charcoal in the granite. That's why was considering the very light gray tile in the first picture and a charcoal island (as an option to expresso island and sand tile). However from far the granite looks cream/taupe. So you are right that gray may not work.

Wait until the cabinets and countertops are done, and then look at the overall effect with the floors. I think it will be much easier to see what direction to go at that point. You may want to use the same white from the cabinets on the island to give you the most options. You can always paint it another color later if you choose to do that.
