Building a platform to support heavy weight

This is a project just in the day dreaming stage at the moment.

i am thinking of building what amounts to a closet off a mud room. The structure will extend into the garage about forty inches. The floor of the room is standard wood construction roughly 17 1/2 inches higher than the floor of the garage. The purpose of the closet will be to hold two heavy safes totaling 5780 lbs. Outside footprint of the structure will be about 98X40 inches. Although there are several problems that are going to have to be addressed in person by a professional, I’m thinking I can handle the platform end of it myself.

Basic plan is...

Achive height needed by use of sistered 2X10s on end (they won’t be very long) nailed to a single plate bolted to the garage floor (concrete) and a double plate on which the joists will sit. Joists will be double 2X10s on ten inch centers nailed over the ones on end. Floor will be 2X eight or tens nailed to the joists with plywood and Masonite used to get final height. Span for the joists would only be around three feet.

The biggest problem could well be the concrete all this fastens to, but I’ll get a qualified pro to check that out before I even start.

Once the platform is built and the safes are in place walls will be built to enclose and insulate all of it.

So, am I overthinking this or underthinking it?
