Is that construction dust all over your new hood? Be very careful cleaning that up or you'll end up scratching up your new hood. It really should be covered while they are working around it ...

I think it’s universal, but a lot of pros here tell me it doesn’t look right. I don’t know what to believe. They don’t state the rules, just that something isn’t right. Is it worth lowering my two inches, having to pay some 500+ and repair work on plaster?

Yes, I’ve not cleaned it and I’ve instructed works not to try. I’ll clean it when I’m done in the kitchen.

Minimum is 30” above the cooking zone Some high powered ranges require 36”. What’s off are your future backsplash lines.

What are the secs on the hood? Mine say 24"-30" from the grates. If it's not low enough it won't help with smoke.

It looks a little bit high, but the important factor will be the suction power of the exhaust fan. Our exhaust vent hood is about the same height and the strong exhaust works well.

It depends on the code for your location, Alberta Canada is 30" to any combustible material above a gas store, I suspect it would be similar around North America, ask your carpenter to check the code. it seems right to me.

I’ll check with manufacturer. Is it worth the trouble of lowering it by 2 1/2” for maybe $700? I’ll have to crack the plaster work at top and have it remounted. I haven’t found it to inefficient.

Height for combustibles is a minimum 30”. The code also incorporates the cooktop/range so manufacturer’s clearance requirements. That includes clearances to above, side, and rear, to combustible assemblies. A non combustible surface does not make a combustible one non combustible. Just as if you lowered that hood to 24” above your cooking zone, the fact that it has a metal liner would not protect the wood from being in the prohibited zone.

All if that is to say to check the cooktop’s requirements, as they rule. That also means checking the rear clearance to see if a metal backguard assembly is needed.

Thanks Deborah. I actually didn’t sleep, worrying about having to rip out the hood and start over. I might get away with lowering it without ordering a new hood, because crown at top will cover a gap. I would still new to cut around crown, remove it, remove, wood chimney, then lower the bottom of hood and get it remounted.

The correct distance is between 30" and 36" from the cooktop to the bottom of the hood. I too thought the hood looked much higher than 32-1/2". It really, really does.

I’m measuring from grates, which are hard to see in pics maybe. It’s definitely 32.5”. I’ve measured multiple times.
