Sorry...nope. The best way to install a floating floor (or a striated floor that has a definite grain) is to run it the LONG length of the main space.

This does many things:

1. Ease of installation....longer runs mean less cutting

2. Elongates the size of the room...makes it feel longer and bigger

3. Makes the use of T-moldings through doorways (in your situation) super easy

Thanks for the input. I was hoping not to use T-moldings, since all of the floor will be the same. For that reason, it seems that the longest run goes from the bedroom to the wall of the storage space (or at least it is close to the same length run).

Your installation instructions that come with the vinyl will tell you the maximum run allowed before use of T-moldings. The safest form of install = assume t-moldings through doorways.

Vinyl moves more than people think. As soon as it runs through a pinch point (ie. a doorway) it has the potential to rip itself apart at the door way (or a row or two away). This is the nature of a floating floor. It is the negative to a quick install.

If you glue it (I don't recommend that in a basement DIY project) you don't have to worry. If you float it you MUST worry.

It is the nature of the beast. Besides, it makes installing it much easier. You can start/stop where ever you need to. You don't have to worry about making weird cuts so that it runs continuously through doorways.

It is better to be safe (and use T-moldings) than sorry (floor ripping itself apart twice a year every year until you have to replace the whole thing once more).
