Unscrew the P trap under the sink, it's probably where they're all scrunched up.

The P trap will have them all gathered up and really next time think about this really goofy idea, you had to wash them every time you used the sink.

Well yeah it was an unused sink primarily for company...Hand washing only....Thanks for insulting my intelligence....I assumed this was simply a non-judgement, purely helpful site....MY BAD!!!

Shauna, I did this too and I thought it was really cute for our guest bath. Guests loved it. I took them out with no trouble though, and didn't have to take the drain apart. Good luck. Just a decorative, fun thing, and creative too. Poor PC, such an unhappy girl. Let's pray for her!

I'm glad you didn't glue them to the basin. Design idea goes wrong! You have to admit, it's sort of a goofy idea. Laugh, life is too short to get insulted. Twenty years from now, you will be laughing about this.

Unscrew the p-trap and they should fall out. Don't forget to screw it back in. When you run the water the first time, put a bucket or bowl under it to test for leaks. Don't ask me how I know that? Oops.

It was use at one time used to stop water from splashing and not that uncommon. You should see what they put in the men's urinal to stop the splashing. Nothing seems to work because they keep trying weirder and weirder things....

At least, for a frequently used sink. The OP said it was an 'extra' sink e.g. guest bath which would not be so bad. If kept wet, bacteria will grow in a slime layer on the rocks. In fact, they used to do sewage treatment this way, a circular sunken basin filled with small rocks with wastewater sprinkled over the top. Microbes growing on the rocks would consume the dissolved organics as it trickled through.

People do come up with the weirdest ideas for your house that can turn out to be so impractical. Sometimes I'm not sure they live in homes or actually try out their ideas. Kinda like the computer jockeys who design where to put stuff on the grocery store shelves. I do not thing they shop in grocery stores. :-D
