Help on Roofline so new project doesn't look like a 1980s split level!

Hello I am building a 1 1/2 story garage with loft alongside a single story existing garage. I am trying to design it so it doesn't look like a 1980s split level. Any ideas how to design or gable that top roofline/windows? Run the gable the other way, perhaps? My existing garage and the 2-story house behind the shown existing grage (which faces the other direction) have the shown pitch so I feel like I need to stay with that. .Also I am trying not to overwhelm the lot, so I am trying to keep the profile of the garage with loft as low as possible but still have loft space. The first drawing is what the designer has done thus far. I am wondering if something along the lines of the second drawing would work better? Any opinions greatly appreciated! Thank you!

What are we looking at? Is this the front of your house? Can you post a picture of the existing house and garage?

Could you work with a tandem garage are do you need 4 doors accessible?

What style is the house that you are matching?

I think the windows on the loft are also adding to the appearance. Consider using square awning windows maybe even 3 or 4 grouped in the center evenly spaced, or anything but the 1980s horizontal slider effect.

I would delete the extra protruding garage door gable and the small one facing out the side. Both of these are just adding clutter rather than interest. Take that money and put it into quality materials and finishing details.

What if you ran all of the roofs the other way, both on the lower, and on the upper (to match what is already shown at the back of the garage. That could give you something more cohesive and interesting and minimize the appearance that you have dropped two garages next to each other.

What is the plan to deal with the roof slope of the existing garage toward the new? Is there outdoor space between the garages or is there a link that isn't available in the image?

Another reason to eliminate the nesting gables on the garage: what would you do with the gutter? You either have none with water dripping off right where you exit the garage door or a downspout that will come down on your driveway. It won't be able to have a proper extension, it will likely get beat up over time, and if you are snow climate you have the possibility of ice flowing out of it.
