Guest bath lighting & mirror advice is needed

6 years ago

We are in the home stretch on our small guest bath update. Vanity is 66"; ceilings are 10' high. We purchased 2 frameless floating Delta bevel mirrors (24w x 31h) and two 2-light chrome/brass fixtures. How high should we hang the mirror from the back splash? How high should the fixtures be from the top of the mirror? There is also a can light in the ceiling for optional additional lighting. We've not yet decided on paint color - probably a light bright gray or very pale green. Look forward to your input.
Thanks!

    Hi Christine your mirror height should generally be at the level that your eye level hits the middle of the mirror. Usually that places the mirror anywhere from 6" to 10" off the top of the faucet.

    As far as the mirror itself a 31" mirror is a pretty small mirror for a 10' ceiling. I recommend going no smaller than 40" tall on mirror height.

    Lighting, this really depends on if the lights are (and I assume you are asking about over mirror lights and not sconces) shade up, shade down or strip lighting. A good rule of thumb is the bottom of the lowest point on the fixture should be minimum 3" above mirror maximum 6" above mirror but a lot depends on the mirror and the light choices.

    Do you have photos of your choices?

    We bought these because we are going to go with mixed metals look—chrome & brass accessories

    Do you have any mirror suggestions? The challenge is the width. We can’t go more than 24” wide.

    Here are some I pulled up in the parameters. Without seeing the style of your light its hard to choose a mirror.

    Oh your comment about brass just showed up. Houzz is per usual glitchy today. You could easily do a brass mirror. Can I see the lighting? Are the cabinets black or dark wood? You look like you have a bit of glam going on in the space based off the tile choice and the door style of your vanity.

    Bathroom lighting is best from at least two sources. Recessed ceiling lighting or a good ceiling fixture PLUS good sconce or over-mirror lighting which illuminates the face combine for lighting the person nicely for all grooming activities.

    We want to have a simple, elegant mirror but thanks for the ideas you sent;

    the cabinets are caviar (we painted the ones that were in there). We are leaning towards over-mirror lighting. I thought I sent you the photo of the fixtures we bought but here it is in case you didn't get it. Look we're going for is somewhat of a glam modern farmhouse look.

    I would go for a stream line simple mirror like this with those lights. not sure of the size of this one. Let me find some choices in the correct size. I would go with the gold tone.

    I like the simple brass rectangular one but do you know if they have it in a bevel?

    Christine I don't see where there is a beveled option.

    Hi! We ended up going with the Elegant Lighting MR407Y-24 Eternity 40"x 24" Rectangular Metal - Brass. Good quality for price! We're returning the original lighting (not a good fit for the look we're going for) and ordered this one. Fingers crossed they work. I'll post a photo when done.
