Dining Room Table

Does anyone have an idea for this table? I want something that can stay on the table since we never use it, but have to keep the pad on or put a table cloth on it. I do not want a holiday theme idea, but something that can stay seasonally.

Have you tried putting a chair at each end of the table so that there are only two chairs on each side facing one another? As it is now, it looks a bit like dueling jury panels are about to convene. ;-) I can't quite tell if the table pedestal would easily allow that though.

This might be a lovely place to showcase an antique tea service, or even simpler - a long, low pottery or glass bowl in a beautiful color.

I live Ginger jars in traditional dining rooms.

yes, I do have the chairs with arms. Thanks for that suggestion. I have a really pretty glass bowl I got in Italy, but feel like it is too small alone. Will send a pic with that and see if you can suggest some other pieces around it. Do you suggest some type of cloth or runner? The table is really beautiful underneath, but I don't trust that kitty may jump and scratch it.

why do you have to keep the pad on it?

the table is really pretty, but I don't trust that the cat won't have a crazy moment and jump on it and scratch it.

I totally understand about kitty scratches. Mine have inflicted some damage over the years on my Stickley mission oak, and that stuff is otherwise pretty much bulletproof.

I love Roarah's suggestion of ginger jars! That would be really pretty on your table. Unless you have a special runner already that you can use, I wouldn't seek one out. They can look a bit fussy in my opinion, and might attract kitty to jump up and consider that a good lounging spot. Cats are not to be trusted. ;-)

Such a lovely room and I really like all of the ideas suggested already.

If you like florals, Wayfair has tons of varieties. These three are just examples. I’d use one in the middle, then a pair of the candlestick holders you have on the sideboard.

    For Fall:

And these are what I’d put on either side of the centerpiece.

I also like the simplicity of just one item, like this:

I think using the candlesticks I have is a great idea. Thank you all for these simple ideas. I am really into the easy, subtle touches!

Jinx's last inspiration pic with the lamps is just lovely!

thanks for all of the ideas. I made the table shorter, put the chairs on the ends. Do you guys like candlesticks with bowl, bowl alone or both together. Still think a tablecloth is needed.

I like both looks! Very pretty bowl.

What about a table runner? One that’s shorter than normal, or (I’ve done this many times) fold a long one in a pretty way, as in the picture below. I do this with my Christmas one every year.

One that doesn’t hang over the edges:

This would be beautiful folded up like the first pic:

I’m sure you already have your own lovely tablecloths and runners, though.

I do think you’re right about having a decorative fabric something over the table pad, whether it be a runner or tablecloth. But as Ida said, hopefully the feline(s) don’t think it’s a new nap spot. 😄

What we do for our cats! It’s their world, we just live in it. 😸

Looks great with the shorter table and arm chairs on the end,

Try the arm stairs next to the server (where they were) and the regular chairs

on the ends. I think you’ll like it better.

I was reading a post from you from years back and could not see the pictures. Is there anyway I could get the pictures you put on showing how you added to your existing backyard pond?

I like the look of 3 or 4 identical things in a row on a dining room table. Could be large hurricanes with candles or identical small vases of flowers. Here are a few examples.
