design help-bathroom update

I'm having so much trouble making a decision on how to best update this bathroom.I also can't figure out an organized way to explain what I want to change and what my thoughts are so far but here goes-- bear with me.

Not sure how to explain my style either. We live in Florida. I guess coastal. Somewhat traditional. Our house is a 50's ranch. We redid the whole house when we moved in 5 years ago but for some dumb reason,

we didn't do the bathrooms. This is a guest bath. My husband will be doing the work himself. He's no pro but very handy- this will definitely limit our options.

The bathroom is narrow. I really hate how close the toilet is to the tub. I don't think there is anything I can do about this. I'm thinking to remove the cabinet on the left and put a lavatory. Not sure what color to go. On the right, add a bottom cabinet and a new top cabinet. If I get do it yourself cabinets from Lowes then how do I match the lavatory cabinet? My other idea is to replace the cabinet on the left with another skinny cabinet and the countertop would be long to the toilet. I will try to add the inspo picture for this idea. We will replace the tub. I don't like glass shower doors on tubs so I guess I have to to a curtain which i think makes the bathroom seem even more narrow. I want to do a simple white subway tile in the tub area. MY husband doesn't want to do shower niches so I"m trying to figure out some kind of shelves in the shower (he said as a novice tiler the niches are too hard. I can't decide how far to go around with the tile. Probably white grout possibly light gray. Considering a Carrera basketweave floor tile. I have a wallpaper picked out but I'm unsure where to do it (just on the left wall?) The window will stay. What else do you need to know to help a girl out? :)
