Can you increase a hood's CFm output?

Hello!

I am remodeling my kitchen and purchased a microhood last week that has a 400 cfm output. I found a crazy good deal on a Viking range and bought it off of craigslist not thinking about the kind of hood that would require. Is there any way to increase a hood's cfm output? I have a broan recirculating hood currently that I planned on replacing but could keep if it's easier to upgrade.

I super appreciate any suggestions!

Unless your recirculating hood comes with a very large filter cartridge, it won't remove any of that bacon smell. It also won't remove any of the combustion byproducts from the gas range.

Ideally, you should vent to outside. But if that isn't possible, then something like the Vent-A-Hood recirculating hood seems the only viable option. It's more expensive than basic builder-grade Broan hoods. But it is the only model known to actually have a filter that works.

I think you need a new hood that vents to the outside. Do you have the proper ductwork?

Do you have a window near the range, and live in a climate where you can keep the window open year-round as you cook?

Is your hood a vent, or just a filter? If it doesn't vent to the outside it's just a filter. If it's just a filter, CFM is just how fast it takes the bacon smell out of the air, not how fast it pushes the bacon smell outside.

Unfortunately, there is no way for me to access the outside from my kitchen, so it is a filter system. I bought a microhood (this model https://www.costco.com/whirlpool-1.1cuft-low-profile-over-the-range-microwave-hood-combination-in-fingerprint-resistant-stainless-steel.product.100406322.html )

And wasn't sure If I could upgrade the fan, filter or another way to get to the recommended 600 CFM's for my range.

There likely isn't room in the housing for a larger blower.

The microwave oven ducting likely would gag at more than 100 CFM.

There likely isn't any reason to increase the flow when it all is returned to the room, barely filtered.

The VaH ARS, and maybe some other filtered hood systems I'm unfamiliar with but which would need a significant pack of charcoal to back the grease-collecting screening, can process hot cooking. See the ARS thread here:

Don't feel bad; I suspect thousands of people per year fall in love with pro-looking cooktops and don't know or aren't told that commensurate expense is needed for the ventilation system.

We have a ventess hood with the same problem, I picked this up from Walmart and it solved our problem and its cheap.
