Any chance of pictures? Are there and sprouts forming?

Years back I left one out to overwinter here and it went to flower in the spring. Very pretty!

In my climate sprouts are a winter vegetable. Traditionally planted out in June/July and harvested from November to April. They always flower in spring if left in the ground. If you don't get any sprouts the tops of the plants make a tasty green vegetable. In fact I prefer them to the sprouts themselves. They're sold here as 'sprout tops'.

No on the pics. They're about 6-8" tall. Have grown a couple of inches in the last couple of weeks.

I'll be sure to plant earlier next year if I decide to grow them.

Right. If they're that small I'd give up on them. That's the size they should be when planted out and that's several months before harvest. They're never going to produce in time to avoid hot weather. Maybe just use them for greens. Article on sprout tops

As a side note, aphids adore brussel sprouts. They get inside the little heads, which is why it is so hard to find organic brussels.

Aphids aren't too problematic here. Sprouts are a winter crop and the copious wind and rain plus low temperatures discourage them. If the buttons are tight aphids shouldn't be able to get in. If they're blown then of course they could.

Tried growing Brussel Sprouts in the past in Ohio, thou not seriously. Seemed like a highrise aphid housing project with a good percentage of aphid protein inside each ball. They can survive until Spring in mild winters, or if somewhat sheltered here. Maybe I'll experiment and see if I can get something edible in late Winter, early Spring.

The flowers are the same as any cabbagey veg. If you've seen broccoli, kale, cauliflower or cabbage blooms sprouts look the same.

According to another post on here about broccoli, the bees would love the flowers.

Yes. They go for any brassicas. But I don't think they'll get much from one 8" sprout plant. They're generally a few feet tall by this time of year. Sounds as if they're not much bigger than transplants.
