What about taking the backsplash all the way up to the ceiling? You’re missing fixtures and hardware. Those add that extra contrast and detail that finishes the look.

You could add a metal band to that lower portion of the hood for some metallic pop. Caution: if you do a slide in range, make sure it will push all the way back, which requires proper attention to how the gas line is put into the wall and proper code met. Also, don't get one with a high control panel on the back. Just flat top is best. I would just do a nice simple backsplash all the way around and up to the bottom of the hood. This rendering is pretty uninspiring, so it will look a lot better in real life. Also, put some dollars into great lighting! That will be your show stoppers. Are you planning any over the island? Two large ones would be my recommendation. Not sure what your overall style is but I love these.

First, WHAT slide in range? Second. midst all the doors, there is nothing wrong with a stainless hood. I loathe tile to the ceiling - It's a kitchen not a sauna. : )

The design looks bare because it is just a rendering of layout and cabinetry.. You will have hardware.... a faucet, lighting...you tile to the bottom of the hood. Unless you are eleven feet tall? that's the level in the room that matters most.

It's the area between the fridge and hood that looks bare to me. Have you thought about moving the clean-up sink and DW to the perimeter, with a prep sink on the island? You would have a wider prep space, not over the DW. In addition, a helper could be loading or unloading the DW, or gathering dishes to set the table, without being in your prep space.
