I would do some soft grey blues and dark greys or chocolate brown. Mix solids and prints. A couple square and a few oblong to use for lumbar support.

Check out my favorite Etsy shop, One Affirmation, for pillows. They are handmade and all the colors and patterns go so well together that it takes a lot of the work out of it for you.

I even think the pillows in her photo would work really well with your arrangement.

I always like to have a somewhat solid or textured pillow in the back with patterned pillows in front.

I'm not crazy about the shelves either. They don't seem necessary and will only hold small stuff that isn't the right scale next to your sectional.

a few rug options

Hello everyone! Recently someone had suggested that i change-up the small shelves behind the couch . What would be some ideas? thank you!

Remove them and don’t replace. One you get some pillows, that wall will need nothing.

I don't mind the shelves if you had something on them. maybe a small plant or little trinket. but if you aren't going to display anything, then remove them and keep them bare.

did you get a rug? pillows? anything diff?

I would remove the shelves and leave the wall empty so your eye can rest. Three connecting walls lined with something looks busy.

thank you for all your suggestions....really appreciate it! I am working on getting a new area rug....still shopping around! ; ) I plan to get the rug first and then match up the pillows. Also i'm really reconsidering those shelves. Maybe eliminating them as suggested....right now i just cant figure out what to place on them without looking 'cheap' . Would a photo shelf work better? Or maybe just placing nothing on that wall would work the best. Help!

Hi Flo! The rug you recommended arrived today.....and I love it! I went with the 8x8 size rug.....I think that is appropriate size....would you agree? The pics below aren't the best quality with all the shadows...but I just wanted to show you. Now I have to work on getting the throw pillows! Thanks again for all your help!

Looks great. It could be a bit bigger so the furniture fits on top of it but I think the room size kind of hinders. So if you are ok with it, it passes muster. I looks great.

Thank you Flo. My past rug was larger, maybe a 9x12, so the room can handle it. I do have the 8x10 size ordered...and will give that a try as well. Just to be sure we are on the same page.....when you say 'slide it under long side about 4"', are you referring to the long side of sectional as the section WITHOUT the teal pillows on it or the other section? Yes the side without pillows. A 9 x 12 would be best.

Kinda like this. Pull whole rug over. But if you are getting larger rug you can get all front legs of furniture in the grouping which is ideal.
