you might want to use some upright conifers ... to blunt the red brick mass to the eye .. aw carp.. there is a walkway there.. limiting options ...

i wonder what possessed them to opt with that brick color ... a grey could have been so much better ... imo ...

you might also think about getting some green verticals [plants] along the house.. ergo.. using the vertical greenery as a base to work off ... instead of thinking you can change it all with door and shutter color .. [as it stands now... all the plant material is in the horizontal plane ]

you might want to go with complementing the house color. .. in the shutters and door.. rather than trying to go with a bold color ... in other words.. hide them.. rather than making them stick out .... and treat the garage brick its own sight point ...

go big.. or go home... lol .. wait.. you are home.. and good luck with that ...

pps: what are the shrubs against the garage.. if they are invasive burning bushes.. you might think about just getting rid of them .. but that doesn't matter.. as they dont make me happy whatever they are ... 10 soldier lollipops.. [against the house also] ....whats that all about .. looks like it was landscaped by a builder ... lol

Thanks for the suggestions! I would have never thought of a tall plant ken, I agree there are way too many lollipops. I have no idea what the different rock is.. it very well could have been a builder landscape it. I think I may work on landscape first rather than pick door/shutter colors. I do love azaleas and hydrangeas. I may try to do something with that and tall bushes, and not have all the green round bushes.

wonder if they had a fountain or some such there ... and i note that they had a massive failure of the low perennials ... grasses or whatever they are ...

I wouldn't do shutters on the brick part. I'd put a trellis between the windows and grow a climber up it. A white climbing rose would be great.

Navy shutters on the house sounds good.

Shutters, if other than black, and the door color must match roof shingle color as well as be in harmony with red brick. Your shingles look to have red in them. But it's too hard to tell from this far away. The current shutter color is not bad as it seems to go with the red in the roof and the red brick of the garage.

I would paint shutters with black.

Nothing in the landscape jumps out as "horrible." But neither does anything jump out as fantastic. I'd suggest that after you close on the house, start a new thread that is specifically for landscaping only and include some good pictures with it. The pictures above don't show enough in a cohesive or complete way. Since the house and garage are spread out, it will require two or three batteries of pictures to convey what is there in a way that is useful for landscape purposes. To capture those, you'd stand in line with the center of the house and garage, respectively, about 1 1/2 to 2 car lengths away, and take a series of slightly overlapping pictures that pan the whole building plus surrounding space beyond its ends, so we can see context and background. You'd also need to back way up and do the same from about 50' or 100' away so we can see how the front yard and house as a whole fits together.

From what we can see, though, there seems to be few trees, giving the house the exposed "raisin in the sun" look.

And facing west it must just bake in summer! Desperately needs trees.

Sigrid, I agree to no shutters on the brick. I like the idea of a trellis and a white climbing rose. Dave, the roof I believe is Owens Corning Merlot, it has blues and reds in it. I don't think the red shutters are bad- it all ties together I agree. I just love the look of white siding with black shutters. Yardvaark, yes nothing gives a "Wow!" factor with the landscape. I didn't have any great pictures, just what we had taken right before a rain. So thank you for telling me what angles to get- I am not a pro picture taker at all! I think for the time being, after we close, we are going to focus on planting trees because as laceyvail said, it must bake in summer! There are only two trees in the front yard, to the south side of the house by the road.
