The door, your landscaping and the house number are the stand outs of your old place. Get the posts painted white, maybe paint the interior door yellow, and add some stylized gold house numbers. The rest will just take labor and time for the charm to grow both on you and in your yard.

I love seregiel's comments, but I'd leave the wood posts alone! I like the natural wood look. Whichever appeals to you most will work!

I think you can fully make it your own. Both homes are so adorable. The difference is the white one has your touch all over it. Give yourself time to make the blue one yours too :)

Too bad they had to run the electrical up to your peak it really is quite unattractive. Can it be relocated if you add a post to the side of the house?

I like the blue color and the white trim. It would be nice to add a railing.

If the electrical can't be relocated, can the pipe at least be painted to match the house?

I agree that the posts might look better painted white. And a happy door color (yellow, coral, light green). You need landscaping so see this new “baby” as needing your gardening talents. Lots of color in the front will help. Colorful chairs on the porch too.

I find the old house a bit over taken by the landscaping so I would maybe try to keep that from happening here. I would clad the wood posts IMO they do not belong . I like the idea of window boxes, a more colorful front door for sure , maybe lime green or yellow. Some colorful cushions on the porch furniture.

I agree with Patricia. White posts, a happy color on the front door and window boxes. Once the snow is gone and you get a bit of color outside, you will love your navy house! Happy retirement 😊

Such a cute house! My eye went directly to the top 2 windows. Lots of choices, maybe flower boxes that match the posts, with silk flowers of bright colors maybe orange, yellow & white would be quite beautiful. Adirondack chairs with colored cushions,& a door and mailbox, within the same color scheme. I am a fan of the Navy,white, grey,& orange palate. Have fun!! Happy Retirement!!

Paint the posts!!, Shutters...white!!!

Shutters . . . NO! Wouldn't be able to fit one on the left side of the left 2nd story window. Anyway, your windows are already a feature.

Paint the columns white . . . YES! They will look better painted than rough wood stained.

Paint the front door a bright color . . . YES! Makes it a focal point for the front of the house.

If local codes allow, a white picket fence along the edge of the yard would look good.

Very cute house that needs just a few minor things to finish the look.

How about a fuchsia door?

If the posts are pressure-treated wood and newly installed, you should wait about a year before you paint them white or they’ll turn a nice shade of spotty lime green! And, if you can’t relocate the electrical cable, try painting it the same color as the house so at least it will blend in better. Can’t wait to see how it all looks without snow!
