In a small space, you don't want the pattern "cluttered" (most multi- colored florals) or the color "loud" (visually jarring) . Liking the pattern in your pic -- not at all too "busy" -- if you could find something similar in one of the blues in your art, do consider that. Two colors, even if there are multiple shades of one, would be better than a lot of bold colors.

Thank you. Your advice is very helpful. I like the idea of multiple shades of a single color. Our current wallpaper is fine, but it's getting "tired" to us after 30+ years.

I love this York paper (below). But we need more info for the best suggestions: idea of budget, how the rest of the house is decorated (not to perfectly match, but at least connect), what your preferred colors are, what styles you like.

I think this is beautiful, but it may feel too traditional for you? Or too dark? Too much pattern? It’ll help with further suggestions. :)

The wicker mirror is out of place in this house and too high. I use antique framed mirrors in my bathrooms. The wood recalls age. I just had a mural painted in my powder room, based on the 1860 lithograph of my property. Perhaps you can emphasize some aspect of your unique house, or maybe something related to the history of the property. I had thought of using several photos of my house over the years, framed census reports showing the progress of the first family from 1800 to 1920, or copies of the deeds over the years. My gr-gr-gr grandparents were married in 1807 by the original owner of this house, so I have a framed copy of the record hanging here because they are part of the history of the house.

Don’t we wish Houzz featured more of our style!!! Check a story on Houzz Treading Carefully With An 1820 Connecticut Farmhouse. The library is brilliant! They reproduced census records and hung them as wallpaper. I looked into it, but my plaster walls are too uneven. For me, the hand painted mural solved the problem. And My3dogs—-fantastic!

Aw, Jinx, THANK-YOU! I love my house, and since I can do whatever I want to it, I have a blast. Yes, I DO remember CER - she was as firm in what I shouldn't do, as I am in what I want to do! I will never be 'in style', but I'll be very happy in my old Cape on the river.

I wasn't too happy with what I woke up to yesterday, though - 6+ inches of fresh snow.
