Bathroom Design Question

I have a guest bath that we are in the middle of redoing but I have a small problem. I have my plan set on using a design in my flooring, a navy blue vanity with whole counter and a blue surround mirror. My problem comes in because I am torn on if I should install a backsplash between the sink and mirror or leave it plain. The wall will be white and we are not touching the bath and its surround.

    I have had two types of bathrooms in our previous homes, one with a backsplash and one without. The one without never had water damage or anything of the sort. The way my family uses the bathroom sink, we really don't need it. Honestly, I think that backsplash looks like a silly afterthought. If you aren't going to tile the wall (chair rail height) then I would not do it.
