Ceiling trim (not coffered) for 8' ceilings?
Having trouble finding examples of ceiling trim (not coffered) for 8' ceilings, in an open kitchen dining plan, to visually separate the dining room. An open plan that has no header (we put in a steel beam). Can this work? I am searching high and low, but every example I can find is from one room, or one chunk of one room.

6 years agoThere’s probably a reason why you can’t find too many examples. Crown on 8’ visually brings the ceiling even lower. I agree on a cases header, even a small one. Ours is about 6”

6 years agoIt sounds like you want to do something over the dining table? I love a ceiling detail in a traditional home. Here's a few that could work on an 8' ceiling without bringing the ceiling down.

One tacky detail doesn’t need to ever be adopted somewhere else just because someone made that type of mistake and took a picture of it. It just serves as permanent record of what not to do.
None of your pics are done isolated over a single spot in an open concept. They either cover the whole ceiling of open concept, or they are separated in some other way from the other “rooms” in the open concept. With cased openings. - 6 years ago
Thank you all for your comments. Yes, Wilson, exactly. Beautiful examples using shallow molding...but I still can't find anything over a dining room that is open to the kitchen. NYCish and Live_wire, I had a transom built in my former home, with 8' ceilings, to visually separate the kitchen/pantry area from my tiny mudroom with slate flooring. Turned out great! (So many times, contractors or others have told me something can't be done, and it can). Maybe in this case it would look forced. Maybe it would great. That's why I was looking to see if anyone had any examples so I could see for myself. My architects wanted a faux header separating the dining room from the kitchen. Putting in a beam cost a lot and we decided to leave it open. Now that the cabinets will be installed soon, I'm finalizing details and looking at options, It's like wallpaper on the ceiling. There are not hard rules. Sometimes it looks fab and sometimes it doesn't. Every case should be looked at individually.
