Are drop in kitchen sinks tacky?

I have a pretty high-end loft that is modern with some traditional stuff mixed in. Eclectic.

I have an undermount sink but I hate it. And to put a new one in will require polishing the granite.

So now I am thinking about a drop-in.

What about something like this.

Why please? Do you have black/brown recurring crud? If so, your sink is leaking.

Not necessarily. I replace double bowl sinks with single bowl sinks regularly without polishing the stone. Half a day job:

So the corner reveals are off; big deal. They didn't want to pay to make them match.

Leave it alone. 99.9999% of people will prefer an undermount.

And no, drop in sinks aren't tacky.

This Wilsonart sink is cracked.

It's mounted into Wilsonart's discontinued Solid Surface Veneer. The new cutout edges are smoothed. I won't undermount to SSV.

We just put in a drop-in sink 5 months ago, during our kitchen reno, and we LOVE it!!!

Both my mom & sister wish theirs were drop-in like mine, because of the Q-tip cleaning their undermounted sinks require. We all highly recommend drop-in to you!

Mine is an Elkay Crosstown, which has a completely flat rim (universal mount) that looks modern/contemporary as a drop-in:

Joseph -- No I just do not like my sink -- its a double sink and its just old and doesn't quite fit within the granite. Its too small so there is a ledge. So I would prefer the granite to be cut and a new undermounted sink

The sink you're looking at is not tacky. But if you think you'd prefer undermount, at least consult with a fabricator to see how bad it would be to get one. You know, once you can go outside and all.

So a fabricator means a company who will make a custom sink, right? Because my slab of granite would need a custom one.

But I prefer a newer looking one so I would like the the granite cut,

Granite/stone fabricator. Call around. Some might not want to do something small like that.

Post a picture of your sink and sink base cabinet with dimensions please. I'll tell you if you need a custom sink or not. I replace 150 sinks a year.

Only because they don't think they can charge enough to make the risk worth while. They are wrong.

Joe, what would you be listed under in the phone book though? Surely there's no listing for Replacer of Sinks. Unless there is! Is there? Who does one call?

Good question. I helped Premier Countertops in Omaha get started and Simply Sinks in Atlanta, but I'm the only one I know of in southwest Florida.

If an undermounted sink has a positive reveal, there is no area requiring Q-tip cleaning. It would be silly to clean a TopZero sink with a Q-tip.

Top mount sinks always have a ledge that catches crud when wiping the countertop. I'd recommend a Q-tip.
