Hey guys! today I noticed quite a large trifoliate branch coming out of my meiwa kumquat rootstock. I’m not quite sure what it is as I lost the tag. This particular tree has been prone to rootstock suckers in the past and I’ve tried to root several of them for my grafting but none ever took so this time I thought I’d do something different and air layer it to see if I could finally get my own rootstock For future grafts!!! Well it was messy! Real messy lol I wish I had taken pictures during the process but it was so messy i totally forgot! I can tell you the bark slipped so easily that was the easy part the hard part was getting some wet soil to clump together on the thing then wrapping it in Saran and elastics very messy business! Not even sure I got enough soil in there but without firther ado here it is:

ps i Saran wrapped the twig separately but then it kind of hung heavily to one side bending down from the weight and I was afraid it would snap so I did another Layer of Saran attaching it to the large branch

Anyone else had success with it?!
