Other than the spindles, hardwood, what are you trying to accomplish in the room, e.g., furniture placement only, or are you planning on painting, new furniture? Currently, no cohesiveness to room. Can you give us a better idea of your goals.

I would like to see the plaid chair snuggled in by the fireplace in the area where that chest is now. Bring that taller round table from in front of the window next to it with the lamp from the chest placed on it. Slide the love seat down so the chair will fit....I know that means it will not be centered.

Easiest way to get the creative juices flowing is to remove all you can from the space (even pile up into a far corner). Pictures off wall, etc.

First thing: can rug be turned the other way? If not, even try it at an angle. Then I would place the sofa so that you see it as you enter the room. It is a great piece that is lost on that current wall. So, try it in front of the window, or facing the fireplace.

Can you take more pictures in better light? Maybe even of other furniture around the house. We need to find you something that would work as a coffee table.

Bring the two chairs in front of the window in much closer.....lots closer and only that one small round table left in the middle of them then. Can that chest then go to the right of the big window? Can't tell what the tall item is in the corner next to the fireplace???

It's a quilt rack.

OK.......I do like the idea of the couch facing the fireplace and the chest going where the couch is now. The pic there might even work with it, but lower. Use two chairs that are close in size and color and put one on each side of the fireplace and you now have a nice conversation area. Leave the only chair not used in the bay window with a nice table beside it. Try the quilt rack on the wall to the right of the window.

If you put the couch in front of the fireplace, it all but blocks entry into the room.

Will the couch fit as you enter the room on the right hand side, facing fireplace, with end towards the bay window? There is some thing about the dimensions/layout of this room that keeps confusing me when I try to visualize it.

I would just love to see something else on each side of the fireplace, and that is why I suggested the dresser on the couch wall and the quilt rack on a different all. There is ROOM for two chairs right here and I would love for you to try that. Remove item in front of the fireplace opening....do not block that.

The couch is bigger than I see it, as it appears to be a love seat. Are you moving it up fairly close to the fireplace with room behind it for walking? It just disappears in to the wall and it deserves to be seen and appreciated.

The only other thing is to place it in the window area, but not all the way back in the bay part. Use the dresser under the picture on the couch wall and put a chair on either side of it, facing the couch. The other chair will go beside the fireplace, to the left of the couch. Once big pieces are in place, we can figure out your plants and pretty pretties and the quilt rack.

You have a lot of "leggy" and "wirey" pieces here. I agree you should remove everything - up against the railings, turn the rug and start with the FP. Paint the brass with heat proof black matte paint. Hang the larger piece of art that is now over the sofa 5" above the mantel. Remove the floral from the carmine vase on the chest and place the vase to the left of the art. Place your Corgi on the right side of the hearth and keep the FP simple. Place the sofa perpendicular to the FP with its back to the window. Put the short glass and wrought iron table 18" from the sofa as a coffee table. Between the sofa and the window, place the large table with the scroll bottom. If it doesn't have a glass top, have one cut for it and use it to place your live plants in the light. Moving clockwise, add the chair with the cabriole legs so it faces the FP. Put the green floor lamp between it and the sofa. Place the plaid chair and the green armchair together on the wall opposite the window, with the chest and table lamp between them. Hang the fabric above the chest on a rod (use ring clips to hold it.) Put the floral art from the FP to the right side of the window (center at 60" above the floor.) Build in lighted shelving on either side of the FP. This eliminates the one wood table and the decorative cart but I think you'll like the results.

deco....love it, especially putting that vase on the mantle for some color there AND putting the plants behind the couch for sunlight there. You filled in the blanks for me......oh, and you found a coffee table, too, which is awesome!!!

Vase will not fit on mantel-mantel too narrow. Will place it below.

What then goes in the space to the right of the fireplace, Deco?

I will do a spin off on deco's idea for the quilt behind the chest.......see if the whole piece of wood will sit behind the chest, and still put the quilt on it. Obviously the chest will not be against the wall, but it is ok to not be touching it. The quilt may have to be folded a little differently, but it will be a pop of color there and some height at the same time.

Do everything that Deco suggested and then post some pictures for us!

Will take pictures tomorrow. Took many suggestions. Bigger metal scroll table did not fit in bay window behind couch without putting couch too far into the room. Put it in the corner where the quilt rack was. Removed Bike planter and square TV table.
