Size and spacing of can lights exposed ceiling basement

I’m trying to decide first if it’s better to do 4 or 6in can lights for our basement. 8 ft ceiling and also spacing of them so that I do not overdo the lighting. I know to space it 3ft from the walls but then it varies with advice
