Is it water- soil-, and soilcritter-friendly, the dye that is used to color the mulch?

Thanks for asking. I'd rather use the long leaf pine needles that I collected on my property in Williston for mulch. But, I don't have access to them here.

I did research before I bought the mulch. The mulch I use is Mulch and Soil Council certified to be safe for humans and animals. The dye is iron oxide that is found naturally in our soil and water. The wood is hardwood, not recycled pallets so no creosote or nasty chemicals.

Once the plants fill in, I'll be removing a lot of the mulch. It's more to keep the weeds from taking over until the plants can get established.
