I think you'll love it, I put 2 in 2 years ago & they do love to grow! The blooms are enchanting & smell heavenly. I'm sure in your climate they'll grow a lot faster. Mine are splayed out on a fence & each is about 8 ft wide. This year they were pruned for the first time & already have quite a lot of new growth, no buds yet. We have a very long, cool spring so the flowers don't start until around late May, early June.

Congratulations! I looked it up and it's a BIG rose! Can't wait to see your updates!

Thank you, all—I’ve been admiring this one for so long, and am hoping that it will like it here. I should have added this too, but it’s going over the bunny hutch. I guess I should have posted it there, but I was just excited to have it in the ground. I’ve been reading about it for so long, it’s just awesome to think that it’s finally in my garden. 😊

So happy for you, Perma. It's in my top five of roses, and I was devastated when I lost it because the spot against the house was ultimately too hot for it. Jackie, yours is spectacular!

Those photos are soo pretty! It’s because of yours, Jackie and Ingrid, that I wanted it. 😊 It just came up so often in posts and photos, and was so lovely...and then when I heard it did well in FL I was elated. I’m really looking forward to it growing and thriving.

Thanks Perma! I have been wanting this one a long time - didnt realize it was that hard to come by. I have a long fence in my front yard that I plan to put it, giving it plenty of room to climb and sprawl. Will keep you posted!

Perma n' Posies, to answer your question - yes, there is a structure of several long two by fours which are vertical and horizontal, and hold up the little roof over the back stairs, which is not otherwise supported. So, we are able to tie the rose(s) to those boards (first growth redwood, as is all of the wood in our house - bad that they chopped down those trees, but good in that the wood never rots, and those boards are just as strong as when they were put there 115 years ago). Hard to see, but here is another pic of the area:

The red rose is Blaze, which is actually rooted way to the left of where Rd'O is, but decided to send a long cane over to co-habitate with Rd'O. the white one on the right is Sombreuil (aks Colonial White).

Its a beautiful combination!

Perma: So happy you finally got Reve d'Or! Congratulations! I think I read in some discussion you wanted one so much. Darn it I wanted one too but completely forgot when I placed my ARE order and they had sold out on Jaune Desprez. From a distance these two roses look kind of alike do you think??? PLease keep us posted how your Reve grows!

jacqueline: your Rd'O is just breathtaking! I am lacking words! Hope I can do something like that. You fasten the canes to the posts but do you regularly train/retrain/deadhead way up there on a ladder? Or this rose is low maintenance? How is the fragrance? Thank you for sharing your rose!

Mild tea rose fragrance. No, all we do is I feed it once a year with Osmocote, and we give it water all during our normal at least 6 months summer with NO rain, and my DH gets a ladder once a year and ties up the canes, or prunes them if they are trying to go into the house via squeezing through the shingles... We never dead head it or anything. The canes are small in diameter and flexible, so easy to move around. Thorns not bad. Never sprayed, and it is always clean. AND, it grows happily in partial shade!

I think they are similar, Katya. It’s probably a favorite kind of rose for me, blowsey and changeable. There’s something so lovely about these pale yellows, too. I seem to be collecting them, but still feel like I need JD. 😊

I would like to put in a good word for Crepuscule - it is one of my top 5 roses. Right now its coming into full bloom - those multitudes of peach ice cream blooms are just magnificent! If Rev d'Or is half that lovely, I will be thrilled!

Perma: If I had suitable space I would get them all too. When I first joined the rose forum last year these blowsey, yellow, mutable rose caught my eye first. I knew I had to have them. Luckily I am just warm enough (maybe!) to grow them. They are so appealing.

Maybe the fragrance on JD is a little stronger? I am so happy for you.

Where did you get Reve d'Or?

I have been trying to find reve d’or for 4 years, and FINALLY found it in stock 2 weeks ago on petals from the past’s website after going through all the website’s including pftpast’s. I just stumbled upon it while looking at Spice Rose in the alphabetical listing. I was spelling it wrong in my original search, so it didn’t come up. (Rev d’or rather than Reve d’or) . By then, though, I had to leave for carpool to pick up the kids from school. i swear i wanted to enter my cc info whike stopped at a red light, but my eyesight is going and I didn’t have my reading glasses. By the time i got home it was out of stock 😩😩😩

Do the rose God’s just not want me to have this rose 😭😭😭

bridget - where are you located? I just looked up 'Reve d'Or' on Help Me Find/Roses, and it listed Greenmantle and Burlington Rose Nursery in California as carrying it, and also Angel Gardens and A Reverence for Roses in Florida.

'Reve d'Or' is listed on Burling's 2024 inventory list. Get if from her!
