Crypton Fabric input!!

last modified: 6 years ago

I am buying a Taylor King sofa (Cozy Creation), finally found a size that fits my needs. Their solid fabrics seem to be somewhat limited. Ideally I was looking for a linen LOOK or a tight basket weave in a light creamy beige. So I was/ am considering a Crypton fabric, Bayou Porcelain. I was hoping for a warmer color, but I could not find one. So I did a test on Bayou Porcelain sample, I put ketchup on it. Took a while for the ketchup to come off, I was using a netted sponge and a little dish detergent diluted with water. The stain came out, but some of the threads look pulled and it still smells like ketchup? The other fabric I was considering by Crypton was Silex Snow. I did not really want white, but it was a warm white and it looked nice. When I went on this site I saw a post about Silex Snow, what a coincidence!!! A woman was very dissatisfied with this fabric, after three months it turn to a grayish white. I am looking for feedback on Crypton fabrics, durable, colors and cleaning issues.

Thank you.
PS This picture is not a Crypton fabric, but I am looking for a similar color.

Chrisstack, I am really curious what you decided to do. I am in a similar boat - looking at different fabrics in colors and textures similar to what you described (and in a Crypton fabric). Did you find a solution? If not, best of luck in your continued search!

Imurph Due to the virus epidemic the stores are closed. I am considering a fabric called Dilly Ivory, I wish it was a little more creamy, hopefully it will be fine. I was going to order it from a store out of state, but the sofa comes directly from Taylor King to me, so the store would not be able to inspect it first. As of late there seems to be more complaints about Taylor King.

Chrisstack Did you order your sofa? I'm having same kind of dilemma. Fabric I want is now discontinued so have to figure out other options. Just wondered how your experience went with ordering and it coming straight to you and how you are liking it.

Kylie I did not get my Taylor King sofa yet. Hopefully in 4 more weeks.

Hi, I'd love to hear what fabric you ended up with. And see a picture? I am considering Bayou Porcelain as well. Was really looking for a linen type look.

How has it worn? Any issues with pilling?

Yes it pills a little. I am very careful, when I am alone I put a throw on it.

I bought a sofa in Crypton fabric and it is great for spills such as wine, coffee, etc. But after one time of sitting on it in a pair of prewashed old blue jeans, the entire pillow is stained. Crypton fabric repels stains but attracts like magnet denim. This happened the first month I owned the custom sofa. I am so disappointed. They should mention not to buy if you or any guest ever wears jeans. Steer clear of Crypton.

I have been reading that Crypton is not eco friendly either. I have decided not to use it for this reason.

I’m a designer and I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but…At first I was pleased to hear about Crypton fabrics - it seemed like a dream come true. Durable, easy stain removal - who wouldn’t want that?!

What they DONT tell you is that this fabric pills a LOT! Over time, where everyone sits and/or rests their feet, it begins to pill from the friction of moving and pretty soon the fabric looks TERRIBLE!

I would recommend selecting a natural fiber (cotton, linen, etc.). While they won’t have the ease of stain removal, you can have the company from which you order the furniture piece gray the fabric with a stain repellant, or you can use a Scotchgard type product and apply it yourself.

Appleton Interiors. You are so right. My sofa pills.

I found a fabric for my two chairs, I did not realize Crypton Woven Velvet by Charotte would pill because it exceeds 200,000 Wyzenbeek rubs ( Heavy Duty). 100% woven polyester. I may have to re-think this. Thank you.

So glad you don’t have issues!!!

Maybe because it’s not actually crypton.

Unfortunately I have a similar response. I received a sofa from Arhaus love the style but the nomad crypton snow fabric is beginning to pill after six months of use. It seems to be mostly where my husband sits with jeans. Ugh
