WE PURCHASED THIS HOUSE TWO YEARS AGO AND WE ARE READY TO DO THE EXTERIOR. WE KNOW WE WANT STONE IN A SMALL AREA IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE, SHUTTERS, BUT TORN AS WE THINK A CEDAR SHINGLE OF SORTS WITH WHITE PAINT AND BLACK SHUTTERS COULD BE NICE. OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IS IN THE SUBURBS BUT IN A VERY OLD WORLD PRESTIGIOUS ROAD, MOST HOUSES OUR WHITE WITH BLACK SHUTTER FARMHOUSES OR ESTATES. THIS IS 5 ACRES WITH A CREEK, LARGE FRONT DRIVEWAY. I DONT WANT SUPER FORMAL, NATURAL, INVITING. WE ARE CHEFS AND BUILDERS AND THERAPISTS IN THIS HOME. WE DO HAVE AN ADDITION GOING ON TO THE FAR RIGHT OF THE HOUSE THAT WILL BE A MASTER BEDROOM EXTENDING THE WIDTH OF THE HOUSE. THERE WILL ALSO BE A ENCLOSED GLASS PORCH ON THE FRONT WITH A STONE BASE, AND STONE AROUND THE PERIMITR OF THE HOUSE THAT MATCHES THE STONE WE PICK FOR THE FRONT OF THIS HOUSE. WE THOUGHT A NICE OLD WORLD LIMESTONE OF SORTS WHERE THE WHITE TYVECK PAPER IS ( THAT WILL MATCH A STONE FOUNDATION ON THE FRONT PORCH) AND SHINGLE THE REST (CERTANTEED?) ETC. I LOVE THE DARK TAN CEDAR SHINGLE, WHITE PAINT, STONE AND BLACK SHUTTERS, WHITE WINDOWS AND TRIM? SUGGESTIONS, PLEASE. ITS A TWO STORY COLONIAL.

This house could really use a front porch, but Im not sure why you are putting enclosed glass on the front, I would want that in the back, and a grand sitting porch on the front. A Metal roof could also be very nice on this house.

IMO you are going very cookie-cutter with black and white, though it works as a traditional farmhouse so I dont have a lot to argue there.

I think a lot of the evolution will really happen with proper landscaping.

YOU CAN ALSO HELP OTHERS BY NOT WRITING IN ALL CAPS, AND EVEN BREAKING THINGS UP WITH AN OCCASIONAL BLANK LINE. WHAT YOU HAVE WRITTEN IS VERY DIFFICULT TO READ.

Your house is a typical center entrance Colonial built probably in the 1950’s.

This photo is your house, with 8/12 windows on the first floor. A portico would make a big difference as it is an expected look for the style.

I don’t see a glass enclosed porch on the front.

What's with the off-side window in the connector? Is that the kitchen?

I would be inclined to turn the garage into the master suite and have a free standing garage. Adding on more roof line to the house might not look so great.

Put the stone facade on the garage and make it look like an old restored barn.
