remodeling kitchen and looking for countertop and backsplash ideas.

I’m having classic white shaker cabinets put in and I’m doing an island in a medium grey colored shaker cabinet. On the island I’m doing a quartzite countertop in crystal (sp) due to its somewhat transparent nature. I plan to under light that countertop with led lights to provide a nice “glowing” feature.

The white countertop wall: I was going to do a white quartz countertop and a white matte subway tile for the backsplash. The guy at the countertop store convinced me that may be too much white and it could look “institutional”. He suggested (if going with a matte subway tile) to have a more colorful quartzite countertop. Like a black and grey, or something with some blues is it...etc.

I saw a pic on here with white cabinets and white countertop with grey subway tile, and I thought that looked good (pic below). I’m spending a boatload of money, and I just want to make sure I get it right. I’m more of a person who has to see things to tell if I like vs being able to imagine what it will look like.

I’m open to advice, suggestions, photos (especially photos). This community is always awesome, and I thank you in advance!

I like the gray with white, although you might be able to go with a lighter gray.

I should add that I’m doing all stainless appliances and a stainless sink. Should I also do stainless cabinet hardware and water fixture? I like the look of the dark hardware on the cabinets, or even the brushed gold, but I don’t want to have too many things going on.

IMO you either do a different color for the island cabinets or a different counter but not both . I would do the quartzite everywhere I will always choose a natural stone over fake. As for the backsplash wait until everything else is in place then choose that , it can be installed months from now if you need to think about it for a while.

Thanks Patricia, I appreciate the input. So doing grey island cabinets with quartzite...your saying that I should do the same color quartzite on the wall with white cabinets? Again, the reason I chose that quartzite is to backlight it so it would look cool at night. That quartzite is not white, in fact it slightly off white with some yellow brown metals in it. I was afraid to put that color against the white cabinets as I think the pure white cabs with that exact quartzite color would make the countertops look yellow’ish or dingey. I have included a pic of the exact counter that I picked out for the island and the un-finalized rendering of the kitchen plan. I also added a google image of how the quartzite could look with the backlight/ under light.
