Need help deciding a few things....

Hi all.... thank you, in advance, for taking time to look and comment on my post. I appreciate your help!
I am looking to modernize my bathroom - on a budget. I installed new flooring. I will be installing a new light (prob one light bar cause I don’t want to hire an electrician or do drywall repair) and eventually, getting granite or quartz tops and new sinks (thinking square design). I’m debating if I should go with chrome or brushed nickel for my fixtures. I have brushed nickel in my kitchen, downstairs but, as you can see, my bedroom dresser knobs are a bit “blingy” so I’m thinking chrome. My existing fixtures are chrome as well. Whatever I do here, I’ll carry into my 2nd/hallway bathroom. Is chrome out? What do you think?

Second question.... color of bathroom. I have grays in my bedroom and my tile is gray. Would adding gray walls be too much? Should I go with a pale blue or pale aqua, like my throw?
Last question.... I’m going to eliminate my towel bar and hang two pictures. Which ones?

It wouldn’t let me post both pictures....

I'll bump this for you for responses.

First impression? For walls, I’d go with same gray as your bedroom, then let that blue abstract art pop! Beautiful floor tiles! I’d probably choose chrome...polished or brushed. Great for your grays and blues, imo.

I like the darker gray w/the pictures you have in the last shot. the blue abstract.

I've posted a ton of links with how-to's, ideas, and basically blogs on how to upgrade basic on a budget. look at them and pick and choose what you like.

why not hang a shelf? you can make a wood one yourself and buy some cheap brackets.

as for hardware, pick whatever you like. what you have downstairs in the kitchen is irrelevant! Do the clear glass crystal knobs if you want.

For the mirror, it can easily be framed and look 10X better. Go to her blog listed down in the corner, and she shows you how, plus, has tips on how to upgrade on a budget

    or this one.

you can buy simple molding at HD, have them cut it for you, and then just glue it on your mirror. it's pretty simple.

for the light, check Lampsplusopenbox for really good deals. get a long light w/4-5 lights if you don't want to move the electrical

for countertop, look at a remnant or pre fab granite piece. then just have a fabricator cut out the holes for you. shouldn't be more than 800 total. they look like this.

usually come in 6x22 or 8x22 sizes.

this is a pre fab I saw at my tile place. called Ice Jade.

would be pretty w/all of your colors

    another one. Python white

    Great ideas...thanks so much!

Any ideas for cabinet hardware? Chrome or brushed nickel? May use glass knobs on bottom and chrome knobs on top? Not sure if chrome is out or coming back!

So.... I painted the bathroom the same gray as my bedroom accent wall.... and I don’t like it! It looks too gray in the bathroom and doesn’t take on the blueish gray like in the bedroom! I’m thinking on a repaint with Repose gray - one shaded lighter and the color that is on the wall in the picture with the blue abstract art (it’s the darker shade but not as dark as what is painted). You can see the diff on what I painted on this paper plate. The dark gray is what is currently on walls - the color all the way to the left is Repose gray - and what I think would look better. I’m going for a more contemporary / transitional look over traditional - which is what The dark gray feels like to me

I agree, I think the lighter color will definitely brighten it up and give it a more light and airy look. The paint job looks great though!

Thank you... I decided to leave it for now. I added another coat and changed my light bulbs to brighter ones. It does t look so dark now! I figured I’ll put up pictures, my shelves, new lights and cabinet pulls and frame my mirror. If I decide I still want it lighter, I’ll hire someone to repaint it!

Thanks for everyone’s ideas. Thought I’d post the semi finished product ; )... and, of course, have a few questions! I am going to purchase this light for the vanity and also frame my mirror in white. I will be changing out the vanity top to granite but that will come later.

    • I was going to use this (pic attached) chandelier but I don’t think it goes with my vanity lights - advice/suggestions?
    • Also, if I go with something hanging, my pictures may need to be lowered a bit?
    • Right side of mirror will get a battery operated make up mirror. Left side, thinking of putting a small glass shelf with a towel hook. What do you think?

Here is the shelf and knob I’m thinking of as well as a couple other light choices. Not good at this so any/ all help, advice, and suggestions are MUCH appreciated!

pics should be lowered, regardless of light. try another 6-8 inches.

as for a fixture above the tub, code states it must be 8' above the tub. (in other words, they don't want people standing in a tub of water and being able to reach up and touch the light fixture. for obvious reasons). You're going to be hard pressed to find any light that will be code. Now, if you want to hang it and not attach the wires to it, that's an option. but anything dangling over that tub is going to fail any inspection.

You could hang those pendant lights in the corners of your vanity. But you would need to find a bar light that matches it.

Try looking at Possini on Lamps Plus. they have a lot of 'glam' bar lights.

Thanks Beth... I wasn’t thinking about the code...makes sense! Back to the drawing board, looking for flush mount light!
What do you think of the shelf and knob on the right side of vanity?
