Do you know what the windows will be trimmed in?

We don’t. I guess that will be part of the entire package so we will welcome suggestions on that as well.

In that case I would paint all of the trim in white. I know you didn’t ask for this but a white porch swing with some light blue pillows would really give your front porch a nice pop of color. I don’t really know how this would flow with the inside of your house but from the outside this would look great, especially if you had some topiaries out front.

Dunno -- I like the dark windows, but unsure of the rest -- maybe matching the cement sills would work better...

Julie Peterson - I like the all white idea. I wasn’t sure if that was too modern. There’s a lot of medium stained original woodwork and fireplaces inside so I’m not sure if white flows with that or not. Will the white keep the historical feel (100 years this year)

Hi acm. Thanks for mocking that up. Our windows are white vinyl. Are those able to be painted brown? I’ve heard there could be wrapping of the vinyl due to dark paint colors?

What is the style of your home, and what style do you want to embrace?

Julie - that’s a good question haha. Here are some photos so you have an idea of where we’re at. We like more of a modern or eclectic feel but don’t want to lose a lot of the historical charm. We like light and airy with some muted cooler tones of greens, blues and grays. We’d like to maintain the character without seeming dated.

I like how that picked out the decorative trim in brown. I would keep that detail and not paint it the color of the rest of the trim. I would do a creamy white (or a light taupe) on the base trim. I think I would paint all of the door components the same color. I think it could go more olive.

Hi houssaon. Thanks for the comments. Would you keep the decorative trim brown or is it a good idea to match that to the door color? I agree on the door color being more olive. And are you suggesting the light taupe trim around the door be all the same green as the door?

If you painted the door a more olive color then I would suggest getting shutters painted the same color for a nice addition to the house. It will also look nice with either color trim you decide on.

try Urbane Bronze and a creamy white

Beth- That would go great with the color scheme, but what are you saying should be painted creamy white, and what should be painted urban bronze?

I was trying to find similar brick homes that show the two diff trim tones.

you could use the dark tone around the fascia (right below the roof line) and if you have any trim work around the interior of the windows that border the white. (painting the vinyl a dark color isn't usually recommended)

they used a darker trim on this one, below. it's gorgeous

This one is lime washed and they did the white fascia, but look around the windows and garage doors. see how they did a darker trim color? you could do the same combo

have you ever thought about painting the brick (with the appropriate product, of course) ? This foursquare is so nice. I know it's siding, but even the brick would look great painted

The second photo that Beth showed would be what I would take inspiration from if you choose a darker color scheme. If you choose the lighter color scheme I would take inspiration from photos nine, ten, eleven, and thirteen.

Thanks Beth. Good info here. We’ve thought about painting the brick but I’m not sure we’re ready for that big of a project yet. Do you think the two colors swatches (SW 7012 and SW 6222) would look good with the yellow brick? It looks nice along side the red brick there.

I think it's best to grab some samples. get one of the darker tones too, if you like those.

here's what I mean about two tone trim. These can be reversed too, just showing your the combo. So all along all of the roof line do the two trim colors.

then around the bay window, you have that really cool trim accents that are vertical. do the two colors in that design. in the photo I only did the one, but you'd do the creamy around the urbane.

ditto on the top floor and all along everywhere else you have the trim.

you could do the thicker portion w/the urbane aand the thinner line below it in the creamy.

I'd get the samples and do a test run both ways to see what looks best.

I think your door would look better in a deep blue, or forest green.

Here's the latter two side by side. I love them w/the orange. I'd also do your address on a vertical wood plaque and hang out front there.

jmm here are some other darker combos w/creamier whites.

Black Fox, and Roman Column or even Navajo White.

Here is yellow brick with a dark green and the lighter color is a very light yellowish green. I like how the two color trim job makes the details stand out. Painting the center light and the top and bottom trim dark really makes the board around the top of the porch stand out. Previous to this, the house had light trim everywhere except the shutters and railings and it just was very bland. My painter convinced me that I needed both a trim color and an accent color and he was right.

Maroon, burgundy or oxblood red also look nice against yellow brick and brown roof
