It's a bramble of some form, Rubus species. There are both native and non-native species, with some non-natives being rather aggressive. Difficult to tell exactly what kind until it flowers and fruits. Both cultivated raspberries and blackberries are types of Rubus but there are lots of non-cultivated or wild forms as well.

in my experience.. wild bird sown bramble is rarely worth the space it will eventually take over ... world domination is in its genetics.. lol ..

if you want to grow berries... go buy a named cultivar .. and enjoy it ...

there is no down side.. if you just observe this one until it fruits.. and then remove it if they are the usual crunchy seedy useless berries ...

Yes, when enlarged you can see the bristly stems.

@nel5397 I researched wineberry and I'm now guessing that's exactly what it is. The family did enjoy the berries it produces in the summer. It tasted so much like a wild raspberry that I had assumed, wrongfully, that's what it was.

What are the downsides to wineberry and would you let it grow in a confined area (i.e., not let it take over)?
