@silica yes, this was posted to 3 forums/topics as Houzz recommends to do & since I’ve posted and gotten a lot of good feedback on the citrus one for my Meyer lemon I figured I’d post on here too....

Lilac should do fine in a container.

Lilac is actually related to olive, and the roots have some decent drought tolerance.

Lilac would be cool to bonsai or espalier, because it grows fast, lives long, and can be attractive. I say can be, because they grow like weeds in peoples yards where I live.

Actually much closer to ligustrum (privet) than olive.

I would only add that lilac wants to get much bigger than most containers will allow. And the chances of it flowering heavily and consistently are greatly reduced in a container compared to in the ground. If it is not going to flower well, then what's the point?
