Trim; cant match stain color- do I paint all?

We bought a new front door and began to trim it out - but of course I can't match the stain color to the the other stain used in the house. I've been thinking about painting our trim white but that is such a BIG job. Trying to decide whether to paint EVERYTHING or to be OK with unmatched stain. The difference would probably be slight to most people but I'd know. Our home is a modest dwelling and is rather small.

Interested to hear what you would do.

Has anyone undertaken painting all of the trim in a house?

Many have done this myself included yes it is ajob but I just do one room at a time when I have time. I would like to see your situation since IMO front doorscan often be different both in style and color including the trim.

It sounds like you want to paint all the trim. I would go for it!

Patricia - I was wondering if it was the case that the front door could be different . I wanted to build up the trim a bit around the door but as the other trim is very simple I wasn’t sure it would look out of place. I’ll post a pic in the morning.

can we get a picture? Is the trim you're talking about that 90's oak trim?

An experienced painter should be able to pretty closely match the trim stain color.

So if I go with painting the trim ---- and the door of course - --- the next question of course is what colors to use. Ideas? I was actually considering wallpaper for the foyer. Something neutral and textured. Maybe peel n stick at first to see how it looks---

IMO a front door can have different trim and color compare to all the other doors in the house

Before and after...what color is the trim around the door right now? With a wood stain a dark door would make the trim stains blend more if they are a bit different...

No trim around the door right now- I took it off. The pic I posted shows the door without trim (I know it is hard to see that in the pic). But is was stained a medium yellowish-brownish-red. The exterior of the door is a very dark black / brown/ bronze color. I experimented with blue on the interior side of the door but I don't like it very much. Not awful (well, yes, maybe awful) - the exact colors are not right for the effect I wanted.

Colors inside that are "structural" are warm browns / yellows. House was built in 1986 with few updates other than what we have done.

There is beige carpet in hallways and BR's and DR, off white ceramic tile in foyer, yellow-brown ceramic tile in the kitchen, maple wood floors in the LR.

Walls & ceilings are off white other than an accent wall in the library that is BM "Shadow".

We have brought in a lot more color - splashes of red, orange, green, pink (!) in the TV room- energetic colors. The LR/library is cooler with blues, purples, greens.

The foyer remains a little "blah" other than a couple of art pieces that are up.

I SO much appreciate the help and suggestions / advice. Thanks!

Beth- I dont think it is 90's oak trim. The house was built in 1986 and it looks as though the trim hasnt been touched. Im not sure what kind of wood altho it isnt pine.
