Oh, wow! So much to comment on, so many choices. Your recommendations are spectacular. @Kim Reiner, thank you for the complement in my style, as I’ve learned it all on Houzz. If you read my first posts, you’ll see they mostly say “design impaired.” No one said anything about my style and I am not bored. It’s just that we recently inherited my husband’s favorite couch, so it’s new to the space. The previous sofa was mid-century modern an the area rug, side tables and chair were purchased in the same spirit.

@everdebz, the idea of wall tapestry as a window covering is simply genius! Thank you. I especially like that peacock design on the neutral background.

So, y’all, area rugs are back, clean and sanitized! Posted a pic of the DR, too so you can see what I did for a planter while I wait to purchase.

Ok, if I decide for the “hippy-chic” vibe, here’s what I’m considering buying tomorrow. Please cast in votes, opinions, advice. Should I order online or wait until lockdown is lifted (tentative date: May 30th). What is better to buy in person, wait and save to invest in more durability/quality, etc?

I prefer your first rug. Not sure where the navy would come into play with that rug though.

@katinparadise, truth be told, the first rug is more my style. I have to decide whether to keep that one and “teal up” the DR, or switch to rug number 2 and “blue up” the space with throw pillows, wall decor and window dressing. Decisions, decisions...therein lies the dilemma. Maybe I should post the design dilemma?

If that's your favorite, that's the one you should use. You have lots of options to make it work.

Fun room! I see no problem with adding blue with the rug you have and like. Similarly, years ago, I had an area rug with multiple colors. The only warm shade was brick red, but I put a poppy red-orange sofa in the room and it was awesome. The was my first realization that not matching could be successful. Maybe you can try the blue accessories and see if you like it, even though your rug appears to have teal in it?

What I notice with your current rug is that it is not really big enough. The rule of thumb is that all furniture legs should at least be able to sit on the rug. With your striped rug it appears that at least your sofa legs sit on the rug (hard to tell for sure). It would be nice to have an extra chair on the side of the rug between the LR and DR, maybe a swivel, and parallel facing the window, or on the left edge of the rug and angled toward the sofa. (If it would fit.) This would give you more of a conversation area.

@dianabythelocks, thank you, yes, the first rug was bought for a much smaller, mid-century modern couch. I’m just tying out both rugs to see which way I go. I moved that rug out a bit per a suggestion on this string and do like the idea. There are just so many ways to go that I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed, plus, with the lockdown commerce restrictions, we’ll... As for chairs, the only place one will fit is in front of the brick wall, the corner, at the foot of the chaise. The space really is compact and the sectional takes up a lot of its space.

We make do with what we have. Hopefully the sofa will fit better in your next apartment!

I don't care for the striped rug in the living room, and I do favor the rug you already own over the amazon ones.

If you push the circle rug back to where it is positioned in your original photo, it isn't too small, but if you think it is, you can layer it over a natural fiber (sisal one) that is frequently shown, or you can take it to a carpet store and have them attach a strip of broadloom from a remnant all the way around to make it exactly the size you need and since it would be from remnant it shouldn't be expensive at all.

I like the multicolor and royal blue cushions you added to the sectional. (I am not thrilled with the teal cushion.)

I am not sure I like a brightly color curtain or one with a graphic either.

I would put several large live plants in that nook to act as a screen and you can even hang some as well.

Then if you need a curtain in addition, I would get a simple white or cream curtain.

Definitely get rid of everything green and red/orange. Replace it with something more airy and neutral, to flow with the couch I'd do white. Repaint the walls to be an airier color too, perhaps also white? You can even consider going over the brick wall with some white paint - that always looks so cool! (leaving some of the natural color to peak through, of course!)

@everdebz, loooove the pic with the orange bar stools. I did but window covering online. It’s a Japanese tapestry similar to the one with the peacock you posted above. As soon as it arrives, along with the coffee table, I’ll post pics. Thanks again for the ideas. BTW, discarded anything with teal. Will concentrate on the blue and orange.

@everdebz, I think the DR rug stays. It grounds the furniture, especially given the fact that, since this is a rental, I don’t want to change the light wood finish.

Hello again, Houzzers. This is an update. There’s a new LR rug, lamps and curtain panel. Also, changed out the orange kitchen bar estos for yellow. Still waiting on the delivery of the coffee table. Any comments?

Hi I haven’t read all the suggestions, but here is what I see. Group all your plans in the corner where the tall one is and get large white matching pots for them in different sizes. Painting is a bit dark, replace brown matting with light colour (white) it will make it more up to date. Your mirror behind the couch is wrong style, get a more simple frame or replace it all together (it’s probably cheaper ) with a lager one rectangle and simple frame in bronze to glam it up a bit.

The blue rug works well with grey sofa - a cool neutral 'base' for all the warms... I guess it's mostly that way for the DR too.... good for you!

@btydrvn, the rug was ordered from Wayfair, just ideas posted by Houzzers, which led me to get inspired and start changing out orange for yellow. Hence, this rug was more apropo. I had lamps there but another suggestion in this thread was to change them for something more mid-century. This, these lamps. The LR does seem darker, doesn’t it? I was thinking of brightening it up with throw pillows on the sofa. Any suggestions? As for lockdown, pretty restricted where I live but we make do. Thanks for asking.

@happyleg, no valance on window and I must admit, not completely on board with the curtain choice. What are “daylight b U LBS” bulbs? The landlord doesn’t supply them but I don’t mind getting them.
