Design change. Yes or No?

This was based on a previous design. Based on comments I decided not to abandoned the idea but change. I already have the X theme.

Are you thinking of adding trim where the tape is?

Yes. I will be adding molding. The tape is an outline.

Subtlety is always the best first choice. That’s anything but subtle.

Diana do you have any suggestions in what I can do to upgrade the island? I do not use bar stools in front of it?

It might be an overload. I already see the x pattern in the chairs, chandelier, three pendant lights and the wine rack.

ProSource Memphis do you have any suggestions on how I can do to upgrade kitchen island?

You could paint it a color. Maybe add some board and batten to give it a little life. But I don't think your island should be the star of the show. But no Xs, you have enough of those.

IMO that side of the island should not be white and the same color as your cabinets with some panels to make that happen .I think one more X in the space will be way too many .

I see simple shaker cabinets in the kitchen and wainscot molding in the hall....stick with one of those to tie in what you already have. Stepping back for a moment...why not put some stools there and call it a day? Even if you don’t usually use the stools - that island space feels unfinished to you because it’s designed for stools.

Frame it out with simple square shaker panels, and change out the corbels to something with more style. That is where you could possible have an X shape. . No X panels. The white is so stark, that you need to paint a color as well. https://www.lowes.com/pl/Corbels-Moulding-accents-Moulding-Moulding-millwork/4294518237

And change or spray paint the lights out to some type of reflective metal. They are lost against cabinets. Add under cabinet and over cabinet lights. The kitchen is still dark, even with the lights on. Because there aren’t enough recessed either.

I don't think it needs anything. Plain and simple is best.

    It's possible to m\have too many X's

If you go through with the X motif, you'll have to beef up the scale of the wood pieces to appear more like what you see below. Doesn't have to be two-tone, but the wood planks should be thicker to match the scale of your island.

I don’t think you need everything to be X’d. A plain island is fine.

I’d continue the wainscoting of adjacent wall
