Shared Kid's Bedroom with passthrough room

I have a strange-shaped room in my house that both my kids are using/will use as their bedroom (yellow in the attached floorplan). My kids are 3 and 4 months, and I want them to share this room essentially forever. I think the strange shape - a "boring" square room with a neat passthrough room - is kind of cool, and would love ideas to make it even neater for them and to maximize the space! Right now the kids are sleeping in a crib and a toddler bed (which used to be a crib). We've talked about trying bunk beds in a few years, but for now it might actually be easier to use the two rooms as separate spaces for them since the little guy still wakes up at night. I'd love other ideas!

commenting to follow! makes sense to me that the front room is the bedroom and the long room is the playroom, while the kids are still small. as long as you can hear all the way back there and easily keep tabs on them?

plus an idea for when the kids are older: put a bunk bed way back in the skinny room. maybe even something custom that goes from wall-to wall, like a loft (they would enter at the foot rather than the side). when I was a kid, I would have loved to have a "sleep pod" like this. at 5'9", it's wide enough for a twin mattress, plus some kind of cubby for books, etc, off to the side. put a wall mounted lamp in each. then the bigger room could be their study / den / hangout. maybe even with a futon for sleepovers.

Oh a futon could be fun!! Sadly the bedrooms are all on a separate floor from the rest of the house, so it isn’t a great play space for the three year old right now (more toy storage than play room). But maybe soon!

well, at least you have some really good storage for the kids! that room could be turned into a "toy library". line one entire wall with a bunch of bookcases, and some bins at the bottom. they can come in, "return" a toy, browse, and select a new one. then back to downstairs to play.

anchor the cases to the wall. the reachable shelves could be for toys (they could have a step stool), and the upper shelves could be for baby supplies, off-season clothes, maybe even misc household storage. something boring enough they wouldn't want to climb to.

The long skinny space is a CLOSET, not a legal bedroom. A bedroom may not be accessible solely from another bedroom. That’s not legal.

I don't count it as a separate bedroom. Both rooms are one "bedroom" in a real estate listing, but I'm not sure why it matters? They kids are sharing that square footage whether you count it as one room or two.

Nobody said it was a bedroom. She clearly states it's a "neat passthrough" room that she would like ideas for.

I think when the kids get older, it could be a great little homework, craft, reading room that they would love to "hide-away" in. While the kids are so little, though, it's mostly good for toy and book storage.
