Help with Small Patio!

last modified: 6 years ago

Help! I want to fix up my small patio. Need ideas on decor and possibly painting or stenciling the patio (don’t know what color?) Willing to buy a new furniture set...prefer a seating area versus a table. The dining table and chairs will be going. I did order outdoor patio lights that I will hang. Ideas on how to hang them are welcome.

I like the furniture you have now. Is there a reason you're changing it? Is your patio concrete?

Thank you both for responding, the cushions are not in the best shape and it’s actually cheaper to buy a new patio set then it is to buy new cushions. The patio is a concrete slab.

I would start by power washing the patio. Then you can go over it with a concrete stain to change the color and add an outdoor rug. Are the sliding doors the way you access the patio area? If so, it would be nice to have a paver path from the back door to the patio. 2x2 pavers would be fairly easy to install yourself.

Is there any furniture you had your eye on?

Is that an outdoor light right behind the downspout? If you get an adapter, you can add an outlet to it and plug your lights in from there. If you own the trees behind the fence, you could attach the lights to the trees and run them out to the trees in back. Or you can install 4x4 posts on the corners of the patio and run the lights to them.

I thought about staining the concrete. I’m just having a hard time figuring out what color to stain it. I was thinking of doing more of a neutral patio set something similar to this. And adding some pillows and an outdoor throw. That’s a great idea to do a walkway to the patio you can ask soAlso access it from the three season room that is right near the patio. Unfortunately the trees are not mine so I think I will need to do 4 x 4 posts around the patio. There is an outlet by the windows so that should not be a problem.

If I decide to keep the set that I have, any suggestions on outdoor rugs? Also any suggestions on potted plants that are easy to care for her as I really don’t have much of a green thumb LOL

Is your set now made out of aluminum? If so, that makes more sense to me than wood, which might be difficult to maintain if it's completely exposed to the outside.

Concrete color would be based on what you end up doing color-wise with cushions. Is the color it is now its true color or does it need a power wash?

What city are you in or near? What's your growing zone?

The set I have is aluminum. I recently power washed the patio so that is the color. It was raining the day I took the pic so it’s wet and looks a bit darker. I live in New Jersey.

And you said a whole new set would be less expensive than cushions? Do you like your set enough to keep it? Where have you looked for cushions. If you keep it, what color cushions would you like to use?
