I love my Madame Anisette. It's from RU and is own-root. I obtained mine spring of 2018. It bloomed very little the very first growing season. It did grow quite a bit and resembled a climber. That winter, which killed my Crimson Glory and Charlotte Armstrong, did cause die-back, but I still had more than half of Madame Anisette remaining.
Best part? They were all planted in the same bed within four to five feet of each other
In subsequent years, Madame Anisette has grown vigorously and has typical Hybrid Tea upright canes so far but do branch nicely. I've gotten new basal breaks each spring. Her secondary re-bloom has improved, but it essentially blooms twice for me and that's fine.
So far it seems to have topped out around 3.5-4' tall and maybe 2.5' wide. It is a baby yet, after all.
Completely cane hardy last winter, exceptional disease resistance here in black spot country and no powdery mildew so far. We don't get rust, hooray!
I find its scent is better in warm, humid environs. It can be virtually absent to me at times, so it's a variable fragrance. Notably, a friend of mine can't really smell it like I can, and sometimes it's very strong. I find it very spicy, rich, hint of vanilla that soothes some of the more bitter, harsher tones. It can make my nose feel a little "burny" if that makes any sense.
So far, a winner for me even if thrips ruin some June blooms!
She reminds me in bloom almost like a tea but with firmer pedicels.
