What a shame that a beautiful accent piece is not bringing you the anticipated joy.

I have not tried to paint a grout line before, but what I would try to do is match the current grout line. I would test things in an inconspicuous space or if you did your own work and have some left over grout I would mix a small amount to test paint. I don't know if the paint will lift off the grout with delicate painters tape or not.

I have done this with paintable caulk next to textured walls and got good results. I always use this method when painting trim.

My method would be to get 2 paints, one that matches the grout and one that matches the tile.

I would do a single coat over the grout with the grout colored paint, then I would use delicate painter's tape to leave a hairline grout line - the same width as the current grout. Then paint over the painters tape with the grout color so that it seals the edge of the painters tape and doesn't allow the lighter color to bleed under that painters tape, then I would paint the lighter color and remove the tape. You may still have to do a few tiny touch ups with a small artist brush, but overall you should have a very nice clean line that continues the current tile grout line straight across and hides the thickness of the current grout line.

Grind out the grout and the top molding and replace them with a larger molding.
