We are replacing our old wood deck with a Trex composite one (spiced rum with vintage lantern fascia, we think). We are having a difficult time finding info on a low maintenance pergola (aluminum or wood) to go on top, whether free standing with 4 columns or attached to house with header and 2 columns. We have a small budget and house and need to keep things in line with that. Our current deck seems proportioned right at 12x20 feet, however we want to have enough room for 2 chaises and a table seating 8 people (either long table or square with 2 people each side).

We thought to shave costs by not using a railing and have a pergola with a privacy wall on the same side as current one, but more distinct in space and dark bronze color, and with a larger roof, possibly 14x11. We thought we could add just 4 feet of deck to the one side and do stairs around the rest.

Can someone share their thoughts on how this might look and any apps that are easy to use? We are trying to go for a zen, Japanese vibe after landscaping is complete. I attached some photos of current dilapidated deck. As you can see, we have a nice yard space and want to retain view from sliding doors. We need shade for Western sun exposure in the later times of day. Thank you!!
