Do you use the island? If not or not much, I’d prefer to have lovely open space.

You need a sense of what you want and what you can afford to spend. The cabinets look pretty beat, but it's also a sizeable kitchen, so a complete reno will be a nontrivial undertaking. Paint + new hardware will change the feel, but it will still be a bit of an ornate traditional kitchen, so what is your style?

At root, when you say, "we want to remodel," what is driving that? just new cabinetry that's crisp and works? a different look? something else?

In addition to the measurements, etc. acm is 100% correct - we need to know what your end game is and your budget. Even if you choose to do things in stages, you want to have a master plan in place. Looking through the kitchen pictures I see glimpses of the rest of the house with tons if intricate moulding and trayed ceilings. It's a beautiful space for sure - just let us know the goals you have.

How many people use the space? Do you cook a bunch or bring in take out? Entertain? The appliances look high-end but the cabinets are beat up so are they in need of replacing too? Is the floor new/laminate/hardwood?

Identifying this stuff will also help if you choose to bring a KD as well.
