Suggestions on landscaping

I would remove the3 cone shaped bushes. Widen the walkway . A local nursery can help you with what best suits your zone. draw a rough sketch with measurements on paper indicating what direction the house faces. You may have to email it to them due to restrictions now

Making the walkway more visible and lining it with low bushes or flowers would help. Perhaps large slate pieces would make it look bolder.

Larger windows would be my first choice.

I'd add shutters to make the windows appear wider.

Trim the bushes so that no bush extends above the bottom sill of the windows.

Lose the bushes, new landscaping. Add colorful flowers via perennials and annuals.

If the front door is staying then get a storm door to match it (or paint the storm door) to eliminate that white rectangle effect.

New lights--not white--and they should be 1/4 to 1/3 the height of the door (in your case, I would add in the trim to the calculation).

Widen the walkway.

Soak the ground under those miss-shapen shrubs and use a length of chain and a trusty bumper (car or truck) to rip them out. Then go to your neighborhood nursery with your $300 and have a spending spree! Amend the soil if needed, plant some flowering perennials perfect for your zone, and bump up the color with some pots of annuals flanking the foot of the steps.

I think your could prune the bushes so that they have a more natural shape and are shorter. Don't be afraid to be aggressive.

The shutters look so right on your house.

Extend the front porch and railing to include that forward section, allowing space for a couple of chairs. Add a variety of flowering shrubs (azaleas, camellias, spring-blooming bulbs), several evergreen shrubs, and 2-foot-wide boulders in front of the left and right wings, including a flowering tree centered in the right planting area and a Japanese maple in the left planting area. Plant the trees with the mature diameter in mind so that the tree will not rub against the siding when it reaches maturity: if the mature width of the branches will be twelve feet, plant the tree at least 8’ from the nearest part of the house. Perhaps the shutters could be painted a deep gray. Increase the width of the walkway from the driveway to the door by removing the stones and replacing them with cement squares. A portico over the doorway will offer protection during rain or snowy weather. A few additional trees can be added out from the left wing and in the front yard (not directly in front of the front door.

Celerygirl's rendition of your house is great. The dark shutters and landscaping would change the look of your house with very little money. I like the second landscaping idea a little more but either would work.

Wood composite shutters are much better quality and come in a very wide range of colors. If adding them, please be sure to size them correctly and make them look functional.

That said, I feel like the shutters may be too much and maybe you could just install wider trim.

When I look at your house, I feel that your window trim should be slightly wider and there should be slightly less around your door. To help me visualize it, if it were my house, I would tape strips of white paper along the window trim to see how they would look.

If I liked the look, I'd then paint some posterboard with the same blue siding color and put it up against the front door to see how the door entry may look with less trim around it.

It could be, that if you widened the trim around the windows, it may balance better against the very wide trim around the door.

I have a glass frame storm door with white around it so it may be making the trim look larger. Should I paint that part black to match my front door?

Yes, I would definitely make the storm door match the front door, whether you paint it (maybe ask an auto body shop) or buy a new one.

I would get a stylish black light 1/4 to 1/3 the height of the door and house numbers by the front door, as well.

Hands down, better landscaping would instantly make your house look even better.

And keep all the siding the same color.

The are slightly but most of the house around me have shutters and are colonial style
