Pokeweed. Phytolacca americana. Some hedge!

a nightmare poisonous weed for many of us ... an attractive nuisance in that the seeds might attract children ... and very very hard to dig out ...

i wonder if this is intentional ????

It must be. Pokeweed does not typically grow naturally in the PNW on its own and has only very recently come up as a "plant of concern" on local Noxious Weed boards.

I notice there are also some growing on the ground below the wall. Presumably less intentional.

Yes, the indications I've seen is that this plant is spreading itself around the region. But usually it is one here and there, sometimes a few together. And not an entire row, lined up along a wall.
