love!!!! the comments. thank u all

Be sure to carry your beachy look into the adjoining living room with at least

some accessories. Take down those two panels of curtains. Beach scene wall art, colorful

throw pillows, light colored slip covers on that couch. That brown chair could be replaced by something rattan and lighter looking. Same with the coffee table.

I would not paint the dining table and chairs; the wood seems to be in good shape, the wood tone is appropriate for a beach look, and it reflects light. For the chairs I would look for an indoor-outdoor fabric in a coastal shade but nothing obviously 'beachy' like a cabana stripe or shell print. I think the framed mirrors look great, and to me are not too formal. If you want to distress them, fine, but I don't think that is necessary. I would take down the drapes in both rooms. It looks like you have a low shelving unit or side table in the dining room in a dark wood; if you replace the dining room's chandelier with rattan I would likewise replace that little shelf unit so the new chandelier doesn't look out of place. In the living room I don't see a problem with the brown chair. I would replace the lamp bases next to the sofa with a natural wood, maybe in a wood tone like the side pieces on the brown chair. Maybe a professionally made sandy -toned slipcover for the sofa?

thanks for your insight. I'm torn with different comments. I do like a rustic old beach cottage look not Miami flamingo look! Lol. I did whiten one mirror, 4 more to go. absolutely will change the chandelier. the object on the side is a bar cart. the sofa is new pricey leather.i put textured pillows on it. I will also change the area rug,,I knew it was wrong when I put it down.🙄 this room is open to the kitchen and living room. thanks

If you have the time or know someone who could strip and sand the table and chairs to give you more of the rustic beach cottage look - so that the wood looks more like the tone of your TV cabinet then that would work, or just less red tones, more walnut stain. I agree with getting rid of the curtain panels, if you need anything there at all perhaps Roman shades or grass weave shades would look good. one big mirror instead of the panels will make it less busy too. sounds like you have lots of good advice here already. I totally agree about the sisal rug, we had one and it was constantly shedding, hard to get spills out of the deep weave and lots of sand residue under it. Good luck and send updates when you do it, it would be great to see the transformation!

I prefer the bigger one, but what is the size of this room? Perhaps you could go bigger?

Perhaps remove the corner cabinet, to simplify the room. If you need anything there your could do a long narrow console under the mirrors.

thank you. The room is small, approximately 11 x 11 but open to kitchen and LR. the corner piece is a bar cart.

i really like what you have done to the mirrors, and agree that the bar cart tucked in the corner is a bit awkward. Could you measure the current chandelier so we could have an idea of the room’s scale?

thank you. the current chandelier is 23"

another possibility. if refinishing the set isn't doable,,,,should I have it painted white????

A few images /food for thoughts - just cos I have nothing better to do today 😉😁. Paint the table white and slip cover the chairs. Or sand the table and paint the chairs white. Find a rustic console to put under those mirrors, find two nice buffet lamps for the console, if you can move the mirrors close together so they look like one piece, possibly put plants in each corner, instead of a tall vase in the center of the table think of something low, perhaps a light that is very simple, glass pendant or just iron/oil rubbed bronze so you see straight through it to the mirror. however I do like the last light fixture you just posted too. The images below - note I only like certain things in each photo as mentioned here.

this light is 25"h,,24.5"w and d. too big for the space?? my table is 54" rd and seats 6

    great comments,, thanks .
I do like the mirror comment and the low vase but no room 4 any console keep you posted . my husband is too messy for slipcovered seats. Lol I'll see what the refinish man says next week

still at it. painted part of my bar cart

Wow, you're really coming along! Rug thought: I really like these Safavieh ones available from Overstock, not expensive, indoor/outdoor, pretty stain resistant, and wear well. Casual but attractive. Many colors/sizes/patterns.

Crimson move your bar cart to the corner diagonal from it where your front door bump out is and try placing it there at an angle.

Are you willing to get new dining chairs? Now that I see the rest of your space you have a lot of rustic elements and I think just bringing in a simple white slip covered parson chair around your dining room would be well suited. Then new rug and chandelier. I still like the white beaded one especially if you leave your table as is which I really think you can if you bring in the chairs and white beaded chandelier. You could just knock the sheen off of it. Don't shoot the messenger because I wish you hadn't painted the mirrors all white as they tied into the other metal elements you had in your space like the barstool bases, lamps and coffee table on opposite side , but what is done is done. I would love to see white drapery panels with a blue trim on the inside lead and a large piece of art work in blues where the mirrors are.

I think I'm going with this chandelier. it's slightly larger than the 22" I have now. yes ,my 54" table is great quality and I'd have to pay a good sum for a replacement. white chairs besides parsons?? fabric wont work esp white!

    this is the winner.

just had my light installed and I love it. now to address the dining set

this is a 60" round lighter stain table larger than my 54" dark stain table. I like the lighter no shine table. the chandelier is the right size according to every designer site I visited although it looks big to me.

Will you dining room be able to accommodate the larger table? Your existing one appears to fit the space well.

what do u think of the size of the chandelier?? too big for the space??

  • PRO

No not at all. The size is correct.

If you decide to paint, instead of strip, the table and chairs - what about painting the table white and the chairs a soft blue or gray? IMO a white table and chairs is just going to be too much white in the room.

thank you,,Design Interior South, for your expert opinion on the size of the chandelier. I do love it. yes,, u are right about the size of the table. I'll keep looking. I like the weathered look.

thank you. I also think it's too much white. fun researching diff. options. thanks for the pics

54" round. could I save my chairs and have them painted a soft white and have the cushions redone?

That table has the rustic element you have in your family room . X back chairs like you have look really good in white.

A stripe in a gray/blue would be great on the seats

Sunbrella makes several that would be durable for cleaning. Or if you're on a budget and have a Hobby Lobby around you they sale a great heavy canvas option in their fabric department for an unbelievable price.

thanks again ,Design Interior South. I have a great upholsterer and I have bought sunbrella before. my dr chairs are in excellent condition and they're sturdy. I'll ask him about painting and redoing the cushions again.
thanks everyone for your great insight. pictures to follow when I get the next step completed.😀

I had a refinisher check out my table. being that it's solid birch with no veneers, I'm going to have him sand it to remove the sheen. I'm keeping it dark because I dont want the farmhouse trendy look. I want a rustic cottage look. he's going to do one chair then show me the look. have to wait a few weeks.

just got a 8ft square area rug. anxious to tone down the dining set. he's coming Saturday. guess I'll have to lose the drapes

    Yes. Lose the drapes.

drapes gone!! refinisher coming tomorrow to take our chairs then table. bought a basket for the left corner and I'll put a tree in it for height. getting there

probably will shorten the wall hanging. all drapes gone.😃

new traveler palm for my basket. this room is completely different from the beginning of my project. thanks everyone for loads of comments . this is our front door. should I leave it white or paint it soft black or brown??
