Our family has had Miele for about half a century, and the build amazingly overengineered dish washers. It's the product category that they have the most experience with. And it shows. I would never buy another dishwasher brand, unless there was a very strong reason (e.g. we have Kitchenaid in the in-law kitchen; it gets used rarely; frequently breaks nonetheless; but it was cheap and the correct choice for that use case).

If for some reason I didn't want to get a Miele, Bosch would be my second choice.

We remodeled our kitchen and removed a wall opening up to the living room, a quiet dishwasher was a must for us. We purchased KitchenAid Top Control Built-In Tall Tub Dishwasher in PrintShield Black Stainless with Fan-Enabled ProDry, 39 dBA from Home Depot. Absolutely love it, the functionality, so quite we have to check to make sure we started it at times.

Generally, Miele first and Bosch second here on Houzz. There are two schools of thought on DW: American style with heated dry or European style with condensation drying. (There is some overlap.)

My old DW had heated dry and boy, was everything really hot and dry when that GE finished running. After a few years however, I stopped using the heated drying and just opened the door when it was through. Worked very well. But, I bought a Bosch for my new house based on it's very low noise level. The Bosch uses condensation drying. I wasn't convinced it would work, but figured it wouldn't be worse than my old GE. To my surprise, condensation drying works very well (less so for plastic containers). Some models automatically pop open the door when done to finish the condensation drying, but it's not necessary.

The most critical factor to consider however, is the placement of your dishes in the machine. DW racks are not interchangeable. Find the machine that will fit and load your dishes most effectively. There are some complaints that the Bosch racks have the tines too close together. So, bring your dishes with you (especially bowls) to check out each machine before you buy. Or make sure you can return the machine if you can't test loading before you buy.

I love out Miele. It's super quiet, does a good job and the cutlery rack truly revolutionized my clean up.

To my surprise, condensation drying works very well (less so for plastic containers).

Plastic containers always are a bit of a challenge. In European-style dishwashers, they might have a few droplets of water left when the wash cycle is done. Not a deal-breaker, but enough that you notice. I still feel I can return them to the cabinet at this point without needed to get out a towel.

On the other hand, with heated-dry cycles, you don't have to worry about residual water. Things will be perfectly dry -- and quite hot. And that's the other issue. Plastic containers are prone to deteriorating, warping or even melting during a heated dry cycle. You have to carefully watch which plastic containers can go into the dishwasher, and you need to place them as far away from the heating coils as possible. You also need to worry that they could fall down and then get damaged. None of that is an issue if you forgo heated dry.

Find the machine that will fit and load your dishes most effectively.

Another argument against heated dry. Without the big and super hot exposed heating coil, you can place all your dishes on either the lower or the middle/upper rack. This opens up a lot more possibilities when loading the dishwasher as full as possible.

And loading the dishwasher to capacity is another example where Miele shines. They have optimized their spray pattern so much, it is almost impossible to load wrong. On the other hand, with our Kitchenaid (just to give an example), unless you load the dishes following a very restrictive pattern, you will end with at least some dishes that didn't get clean even after hours of washing.
