It kinda depends on how big of a finished quilt you want, but I agree it would be more interesting to add sashing. Maybe in a contrasting color like red or orange.

I like the blue and white motif you've got going there. Will you be adding a border? If you do, I don't think you'd have to sash it. I think a dark blue print border would be nice. Or else, a dark blue sashing with maybe a pop of color in the cornerstones. It's going to be very pretty either way.

I agree - how large do you want the finished quilt? I like sashing, but without it you get a secondary pattern.

All great comments. I agree, first I would ask what size are you going for. Can you achieve with a border? Are you happy with the blue/white color scheme? Then go from there.

Thanks for finding that, Sharon. While similar to Churn Dash, this one is called Double Wrench: the innards are square, not rectangular.

This quilt is not for any particular purpose, but I was thinking of a single width backing. I did think the secondary pattern could be interesting.

I think it would be OK either way.

I like the look of sashing, but if you dont want to sash, I think that will look very nice as well. If you wanted to bring color into white areas, you could do so with colored thread in quilting to with applique'. Loads of options there.

I would just use narrow white sashing to separate the motifs a bit. I find sashing is distracting sometimes. It's so graphic and pretty as is.
