I don't understand why you can't have both. I have a perfectly symmetrical and balanced center hall Colonial where the front door is centered both on the inside foyer and the outside. It's a standard design that's been done for a few hundred years.

Have your architect rework the rooms and the window placements. The entire interior is not symmetrical, which is causing the problem.

Our door is off centre from the inside, but because we have two columns our front it looks perfectly place from the outside. It’s a non issue from the inside really.

We were originally planning to go w/ option B (no wall)....but the more I look at it, the more I dislike it. The off center door certainly isn't ideal, but I think I can live with it since it'll save us several thousand dollars to not have to expand the left side.

We dont have an architect or GC. We are doing almost everything ourselves, which is why we are keeping it simple and not bigger than it needs to be. (My husband's family has designed and built many houses)

An experienced designer would not have traveled down a path to get you to such a point. Perhaps a local architect would be a good investment for you and your home.

With the wall. And don't worry about the interior symmetry, it's a non-issue here. You want to keep the symmetry on the exterior, I think.
