For MA, 5b, I wouldn't be thrilled with that one. It has enough slow-release that it's trying to release on frozen ground--which is pretty uselessly running off and not doing much good as the grass has already shut down.

"Feeds for 6 months" actually never has any application. Apply in May and, inappropriately, it feeds over the summer. Apply in September and, inappropriately, it feeds even in fits and bursts when the ground is frozen and the feed runs off into the water supply or into runoff water, rivers, and the ocean.

Bad product, Scotts. Bad product. I'd go with a faster-release nitrogen source, and you can get stuff that's much cheaper than the name brands.

Yes, or something with a smaller amount of faster N. One month release, fine.

That late in the year, don't bother spending on a lot of slow-release N (which is more expensive to begin with), Go with the cheaper fast release. You're not likely to burn the lawn when it's cold, you'll spend less, and it works better in November.
